The Senate joined the House on Friday morning in voting solidly to give President Bush the authority to use force against Iraq, approving a resolution endorsed by the president and leaders of both parties.
And the chances of Canada being a part of a force against Iraq has increased.
"If the United Nations were to come to the conclusion that we have to go there to destroy the armament of massive destruction that (Iraqi President Saddam Hussein) might have, we will go there," Chretien told students at Glebe Collegiate Institute.
"We believe in international institutions. And if the United Nations comes - the collectivity of nations - comes to the conclusion that something has to be done, of course, you know, we will do our duty."
