Another TUNESDAY Redux

TURN IT LOUD!
This weeks Tunesday group actually started out as a "side project" - Chilliwacks Brian (Too Loud) MacLeod and Ab Bryant needed an extra little something to keep themselves occupied and when they ran the idea past drummer Bernie Aubin and Darby Mills, one of the West Coasts Hottest singers, they didnt have to be asked twice.
Their impact was immediate - they kicked off their musical career opening for Blackmore's Rainbow in their home town of Vancouver and even tho their sets consisted mostly of covers and the odd Chillwack tune thrown in the band's live magnetism was rivalled by few and they soon became one of the hottest commodities in Canadian rock.
In 1982 TURN IT LOUD was release on the independent Solid Gold Records; Co-produced by Bill Henderson (my dads name BTW) it had the fortune of an experienced master behind the controls and made its presence known on the charts the day it dropped. "Don't It Make Ya Feel" was an instant hit and along with the title track and the heart wrenching "Breakin' Down", a ballad about one band members personal dealing dealings with suicide helped TURN IT LOUD hit platinum even BEFORE the band left on their first cross-continent tour. It would go on to sell a quarter-million copies in Canada alone and be certified double platinum, making it one of the most successful debut albums by a Canadian group ever.
Not resting on their laurals they released LINE OF FIRE in early 1983; "Feel It (Feel My Body)" and "Don't Stand In The Line Of Fire" were the first two singles and proved without a doubt that this band was ANYTHING but a "one hit wonder". "Mine All Mine" and "Celebration" and this weeks featured song helped LINE OF FIRE reach platinum status and another extended tour ensued, including dates with the likes of KISS, Billy Squier, Canadas own Helix, Quiet Riot and Whitesnake.
It would be a full two years till they were heard from again but it was worth the wait... the result was HEAD OVER HEELS and it served up another healthy dose of MacLeod's blazing riffs and once again Mills' unmistakeable voice rang true on "Still The One" and "Death Of Me" (one song that would eventually come back to haunt the group). "You're Only Afraid Of The Dark", "Be With You", "Chain Gang" and the powerful "The Danger Zone" all helped push HEAD OVER HEALS to their third straight album certified gold or better.
But times were about to get tough....
As we've seen OH SO MANY times here on TUNESDAY "success" can mean different things to different people and incredibly the band soon found themselves without a recording contract. Undaunted they carried on with their touring; after all it was the fans that put them on top and the band wanted to thank them for that, even if SOLD GOLD chose to ignore the millions of dollars they had made over the years.
A haitus was agreed upon but it was the last time the original band would be together; in 1992 the rock world was saddened when Brian "Too Loud" MacLeod lost his bout with cancer. Faced with a tough decision, the band decided to carry on in the name of their friend, reforming later that decade and hitting the road their own little Tribute Tour. With the re-release of their classic 1982 debut TURN IT LOUD in late 2000 and both LINE OF FIRE and HEAD OVER HEELS to be recut in the new future, the fortune for this Classic Canadian Band looks bright once again....
A live album and all-new work from the studio are expected in the near future and without a doubt this band will prove that they RICHLY deserve the honour as one of rock and roll's greatest acts to ever come from Canada!

They are
THE HEADPINS
and their hits song...
JUST ONE MORE TIME
When we started open-hearted it was me lovin' you, you lovin' me
Then we parted broken-hearted and now all the fun is through
You can't hide it, keep it quiet me needin' you, you haven't heard
Don't deny it, we can try it…I need your lovin' too
You had your hand in hers, you were smilin'
Oh baby don't you know it, I can smile all the while baby I'll be cryin'
Just one more time I gotta feel your arms around me
Just one more time, can't you feel the pressure mountin'?
Just one more time, oh baby, oh darlin'
Just one more time, can't you see what it's doin' to me
Oh what ya do, what you're doin' to me
I got the feelin' that you're runnin', run too far from me
No, I don't care if she's there, she ain't got nothin' on me
Oh she can have ya, I just want you one more time baby listen to me
Just one more time I gotta feel your arms around me
Just one more time, can't you feel the pressure mountin'?
Just one more time, oh baby, oh darlin'
Just one more time, can't you see what it's doin' to me
No, I don't care if she's there, she ain't got nothin' on me
Oh she can have ya, I just want you one more time baby give it to me
Just one more time I gotta feel your arms around me
Just one more time, can't you feel the pressure mountin'?
Just one more time, oh baby, oh darlin'
Just one more time, I gotta see you, I gotta see you
One more time, oh-oh baby, oh-oh darlin'
Just one more, one more time, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Hope you enjoyed this weeks edition of TUNESDAY and if you'd like a copy of any of the songs mentioned here just give me a shout!
