On my Mom's side of the family, we are all pouliots(Except I took my father's last name) who originated from the Ile D'Orleans region, just outside of Quebec City. So I was wondering if there are any Pouliots who know that they came from this region, because if so, we're ralated, nice to know you cuz!!!!

Just a little bit of family history that I'd like to share with you....

My dad is an Ecuadorian native from the tourist city of Guayaquil. He left Ecuador when he was around my age. As a child, there was a military coup-d'etat in his country, and so he has lots of stories about the dangers of life back then. When he tried to leave, the Ecuadorian government tried to draft him into the national army. They can do this because of documents they hide in emigration forms. Fortunately, his uncle had seen it happen before to a friend, and was able to spot the documents, and was able to stop my Dad from being conscripted...My dad has three brothers and a sister, all of which live in Canada now...

His grandfather was Jamaican, and my dad has Spanish and Indigenous blood in him aswell, making him a mix of all cultures. But he has fairly dark skin, making him look to be black. This is not uncommon, as many people in South America look black, but aren't really in many cases....

On my Mom's side, we are a mix of all things European. My family has historically been very liberal...I guess it still runs in the family.

All I really know about the French side of the family is that we came here from France in 1535, on Jacques Cartier's second voyage. Which means we were of the few who were able to survive the harsh Canadian winter....We came and still come from the Ile D'Orleans region....

My Great-Great Grandmother was Welsh, and came to Canada and helped set up the Salvation army in Canada. There was a black woman in the group, who wasn't liked by many of the other women because of her skin colour. But my Great-Great Grandmother would invite her over for tea and biscuits every week...

Going back to the Pouliots for a minute, it comes from the Latin or Greek word, Pulioticus, which means pennyroyal. And we apparently have found Greek and Roman ancestors....

There is also German and Dutch heritage, but I forget how far back it goes...Not to mention, English Scottish and Irish roots that have long been mixed into one....

So yeah, I am so damn multicultural that it hurts.....
