Figured I'd post this here instead of in the forums, as I tend not to like personal threads:

I'm going to Ottawa for a week at the end of February, and I was looking for those ever-popular tips on where to go. My girlfriend is living there for a few months, so she'll have a lot planned, but I was hoping to get some ideas from some residents.

We're looking for nice restaurants - I like the sounds of one called e18hteen, mainly because it's close to her house, and it's got ostrich on the menu, which I told her I'm definately getting if we choose it. Anyone have any opinions on that, or where else we should look? As long as the menu is in english, I'm game.

As for places we're going, I know we'll be going to the Museums of Civilization and Nature, and probably the Art Gallery. She'll definately be dragging me to the Hill. Other than that, I didn't have any ideas, so is there something less obvious I should consider?

Hopefully I'll get a few responses, so thanks in advance!!

Daniel

I don't think anyone has mentioned this: The Museum of Science and Technology. I haven't been there for ages - some of the exhibits are fairly kid-oriented, like putting your hand on a silver ball and your hair goes nuts and that kind of stuff - but I would probably still like to go again anyways. There are old cars and steam locomotives and so on.

It's a little bit out in the boonies, though.

Thanks for the restaurant tips, A_M. Jane told me Little Italy looked 'sketchy' to her when she drives by... any tips in that regard?

Hey Streaker... I had thought that the Museum of Civilization was attached to the Museum of Science and Technology... am I confusing something here?

Good thing you mentioned it, anyway - probably of the most interest to me of them all!

Thanks to everyone again! Fortunately, I'm not the official planner, but these suggestions have been forwarded to the proper authorities! :D

I'm going there this summer, :o

So far the only negitive view I have on it is that the poor city has no hockey team.... :( ;) :P

I'm so walking around in a Leaf Jersey the entire time.

You'll easily see me Arctic, ;) I'm the one you'll be shooting at.

*writes down locations*

I hope to enjoy Ottawa, :D

Yeah I thought it might be vaguely in your ballpark!

No connection between the two museums. Museum of Civilisation is in Gatineau; Science and Technology in Ottawa, well east of downtown.

It's sort of sketchy, but there are so many great restaurants in the area, that you forget the place is slightly sketchy. Let's just say that old Italian guys getting free food and getting their hands kissed are not uncommon in that area.

Another thing to note, is that a while ago, I saw some cars in Chinatown that had black dragons on them. I found out later that it was a group called "The Black Dragons", but I haven't seen them in ages.

Don't worry though, some people say that these areas are scary, but they aren't. Nothing has every happened in these neighbourhoods, so they're completely safe and have some of the best food you'll find in this city...

Science and Tech Museum hasn't changed much over the years, but it's out Near St. Laurent.

If there is one neighbourhood you should be worried about in terms of sketchyness, it is Brittania...

One last thing - if you can while you're in Ottawa, go to The Works. They have the BEST burgers in the world!!! Been living here for more over a decade, I FINALLY went to The Works last week. They have about 50 different burgers - some with fried eggs (sounds disgusting, I know, but exquisitely perfect ;) ) You have to choose what kind of meat you want (beef, chicken, turkey or veggie) and the side you want (the sweet potato fries are yummy!)

It's not a fancy restaurant at all. But the best 11$ I've ever spent on a burger ;)
