The Dark Knight was able to hold onto (barely) first place with $42.6 million, while The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor opened in 2nd with $40.6 million. Last week's #2, Step Brothers dropped into distant 3rd with $16.5 million. The musical, Mamma Mia! slipped one spot to fourth with $6.6 million, and Journey to the Center of the Earth rounded ou the top 5.
