I'm not responsible for any of these pictures. The Doc took the first one and the aircrew took the two of the snakes from the Sea King earlier today.

The sunset is absolutely stunning. When I see beauty like that I really wish I could paint.

The sea snakes do indeed look creepy. I could draw them, but I don't want to. ;)
How long are they?

Snakes should be easier to draw - even easier than drawing 'M' shaped seagulls when you were eight :-)

Most of the snakes I've seen lately have been little - only about two feet long. The big ones are at least 6-8 feet. It's hard to tell in these pictures as they were taken from a helicopter, I would guess at least six feet. The guy in the first picture might be bigger, maybe eight feet - maybe more. Both the pictures were cropped considerably.

I thought they'd be black and red for some reason... or at least dark coloured. Gross little things. I wouldn't want to swim in that water! The sun set is gorgeous!

We have sea snakes here as well. They are most frequently encountered around Kenting National Park at the south end of the island. The warm effluent from the reactor attracts them and lots of other marine life . They are very timid creatures and it is extremely, extremely rare that anyone gets bit by them. Their land cousins, the bamboo vipers are more likely to nip someone.

I read the same thing, that sea snakes are very timid and would rather not bite you. And if they do bite you it's even unlikely that they will inject their poison - they are able to control it. That means they don't scare me as much as they used to - though I still don't want to swim with them.

This just in: one of the pilots came in ops and saw the snake pictures. He asked me where I got them, I said from him. When I asked how big he though the snake was he said, "It was huge, probably at least 10 feet, the helo was at 500 feet when we took that picture."
