A friend of mine has been penning political poems for awhile now and I think this one deserves to be shared.
Merry Christmas, Canada!
'Twas a bit before Christmas
And all through the land
The coalition was trying
To take a strong stand
But its leader was goofy
And had not a clue
His own party said no
He just will not do
So they crowned a new King
The man of the hour
And hoped that they'd soon
Be right back in power
The Liberals are happy
That Mike's at the helm
And ready to be
In charge of the realm
The one thing we don't know
Is what will he do
His party's in shambles
And out of cash too!
Some folks in that party
Are nasty and sour
And focused on nothing
But getting back power
So Iggy, slow down
And try to rebuild
If you force us to vote
You'll likely get “killed”
But wait, there is more
To this holiday tale
The aftermath looms
Like a poop in the ale
Commando Jack waits
Like a snake in a rut
To see if he'll soon
Be out on his butt
He came very close
Too close, we'd agree
To power and glory
And a big spending spree
Any money we have
Would soon not be there
Cause spending is all
About which he cares
Old Gilles is still there
The third person, a crowd?
He's greedy for money
Of that, he is proud
He has not to offer
A thing to our land
In fact, it could crumble
By his very hand
So Christmas is coming
And so is '09
And Stephen is thinking
The power's still mine
He has a mean streak
And calls people names
But we're getting quite tired
Of these childish games
It's time for some manners
And good common sense
Be nice for a change
Or are you too dense?
To see that we need
A leader that's real
That looks like he cares
That's a much better deal
Old Santa is watching
Whose naughty or nice
So let's get together
And melt down the ice
Another election?
Oh no, that's not good
Why don't our MPs
Just work like they should?
No matter your stand
Or political stripe
Please do not succumb
To all the bad hype
A government can't
Fix all things for you
It's up to us all
To think and to do
So please just quit whining
And asking for more
Go out and do something
It's not a big chore
Our country was started
By people who thought
And worked and struggled
And some even fought
For freedoms we now
Enjoy every day
Don't take them for granted
Don't throw them away!
Remember this one thing
There's pressure on all
But united we stand
And divided we fall
The season's upon us
It's no time to fight
Merry Christmas to all
And to all a Good Night!
