So My wife loses her job after 11 years with the same company. Working in textile factory. The factory closed the doors. Thats fine this thing happens. Well they did not pay her a severance package they owed her! 8 weeks pay. So they F*&KED her after 11 years work. There is no money to pay the employees there severance pay.So they tell us. Well Guess what! They have reopened there doors! Across town. New name making the same products. The owner now is the guys wife who used to own it. He is just and employee there. So they f*&ed her a second time now. Grrrrrrrrr This kind of thing should not be allowed to happen in Canada. She worked hard for 11 years for this Company. They just kick the employees to the curb. After a year of being off of work she goes back to school!!! School is out of town. So I pick her up a little car. Just to get her to school and home again. Small used car. We have had it 6 months now. Cash is tight so we have to make payments on it. Well trying to back it out of the driveway Sunday it went BANG!!!!!! The motors F*&KED. Blew a piston out of it!
Now I have a car that will not run! That I still must pay for!!!! Sometimes life just sucks !

Lots of companies do stuff like that... especially those that do contract work. They rename themselves each year, often just adding the year to the company name... that way past creditors can't touch them, as it's technically not the same company.
The car thing sucks... and I can sympathize completely with your wife.
Good luck to her in school though... I'm sure in the end she'll find the whole thing was worth it.
You might want to check out your province's employment standards branch, if you have one. There might be some recourse available to your wife and her former co-workers.

Get all the former employees together and hire a lawyer. Someone will take the case as a class action. Tell the laywer that the fee will come out of a cut of the moneys recovered. You bet the lawyer you hire will get his teeth into it.
