The latest campaign kerfuffle now involves Green Party Elizabeth May, for apparently calling Canadians stupid. The comment camme during a panel discussion on TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin back in Feb. 2007. To listen to the broadcast, it certainly sounds as if May is calling Canadians who don’t agree with the idea of a carbon tax stupid. Now it isn’t entirely clear as to EXACTLY what she said, it could really go either way. It is entirely possible that she was just speaking too fast, and her words were easily misunderstood.

In either event, whether she called Canadians stupid or not, this does not look well for May. If she cannot clearly and distincly get her point across to people, then she really isn’t much good as a politician anyway, and clearly doesn’t belong in the race. Not a very good reflection on the Green Party either way. This just goes to further back up my previous assertion that May has absolutely no place in the leaders’ debates whatsoever.
