Seems to me I hear that phrase a lot. We get the gov't we deserve. The question is, do we really?
Currently, Harper has shown he don't care about popular opinion. The recriminalization of pot was totally against public opinion. His recent decision to implement the DMCA not only went against public opinion but the opinion of many in the Canadian music industry.
Now we have the CRTC, egged on by the CPC to allow Bell to once again, screw it's customers even more, while stifling any competition it may have.
And of course, Harper's now infamous 2-3 month prorogue. There's more but you get the point.
Did we deserve this gov't? Not really.

Considering the disaffection with the Liberals after their "reign of lunacy" and some pretty shady dealings at the top level of that government it's no surpise the vote shifted to the right. Between ADSCAM, the CH-101 contract that cost more to cancel than the original order cost, claiming to have balanced the budget by simply downloading the problem onto the provinces, municipalities and ultimately, the taxpayer, the Liberals blundered their way through for umpteen years because there wasn't a viable alternative. The Reform party came close but ultimately shot themselves in the foot. There's more but you get the point.
Did we deserve that Liberal gov't? Not really.

Considering the disaffection with the PCs after Mulroney tried to sell Canada piecemeal to the US, it's no surprise the vote shifted to the left. Between jumping into bed with Bush Sr, Oka, Free Trade, the GST and completely disregarding public opinion in the last two matters, and questionable political gaming Mulroney showed his utter contempt for all Canadians and the Parliamentary system. There's more, but you get the point.
Did we deserve that gov't? Not really.

So who are we left with today. The NDP? Riiiight, they can afford to make pie-in-the-sky promises cuz they know they haven't got a snowball's chance in Hades of getting elected...
