A while back I was watching a program on CBC with Mitsou interviewing a renowned Canadian Political Cartoonist. At one point in the interview he said women just don't make great political cartoonists; they just aren't funny. While it may be true that I'm not the funniest person in the world, I took this personally.

Not that my cartoons will make anyone fall backwards on the floor laughing; I do think my cartoons and caricatures are good enough to be in papers. Sometimes, I think political cartoons should offer more than a joke or a good laugh. In my view, poltical cartoons should make us think, or say, "Ah! I know what she is talking about! Ain't it the truth!" Sometimes they should create a picture of something we are trying to say to Canadians. This is what you need to think about or this is what's happening right now or this could happen. A good laugh doesn't hurt either.

Maybe I've got this all wrong, but I think I can offer this sort of political cartooning at least on a small scale. I'm not asking to take over the planet here.

As far as saying women just don't make good political cartoonists, I think they should give us gals a chance even if we fall short of making people laugh as men do.

Let's hear it for the girls!
