Re: "Women Have Come a Long Way, but Pay Enequities Remain", Montreal Gazette (A-15), Sept.4, 2009
Gazette reporter, Janet Bagnall, in above op-ed piece, claims that university-educated women earn salaries of 32% less than their male counterparts. She says that in order to rectify this unfair situation, we need to figure out how to treat men and women equitably.
I agree wholeheartedly, but let's also look at the issue of family law and justice, where it is women who not only have an unfair and inequitable advantage over men, but clearly dominate.
In over 90% of divorce, separation and custody cases in North America, custody, child support and alimentary pension is awarded the woman by the courts. Should a parental kidnapping of the child(ren) occur during a custody battle, the mother will usually get off with the proverbial slap on the wrist, whereas the father will go straight to jail if caught.
How's that for the equality that Janet Bagnall insists she's looking for?
For equality between the sexes to work in Canada, it needs to be applied equally across the entire spectrum, INCLUDING family law and justice. Only then, might there be a chance of having genuine equality between men and women in our society.

Military, Corrections, Firefighters, Policing...lets start with the fairness of any and all "Physical Testing," for the jobs, before we talk about equal pay between males and females. Exactually "women won't!" Because, It is a truly unequitable test, in that standards are lowered time after time, to get the required women in these jobs.
