Bootlegga's Bike Ride -- the aftermath
by bootlegga on Tue Aug 22, 2006 1:01 pm
Well, the ride was on Sunday and I not only survived, I finished the entire thing!
WOOHOO! Yeah me!
All in all the ride was no problem. There were a couple places where it seemed like death would have been preferable (like that long agonizing 2.5 km climb on Anthony Henday Drive), but it was still a lot of fun and some pretty good exercise!
Some stats...
Distance: 77.745 km
Avg Pace: 18.3 km/h
Slowest Pace: 14.1 km/h
Fastest Pace: 23.7 km/h (does not include downhill stretches where we broke 50 kmh sometimes)
Riders: 5
The distance was a bit long (due to a couple of unexpected route changes), and next year, I'll shorten it a bit, maybe drop it to 60-65 km or so. By the end, my left knee was starting to burn with every movement by the end of it. My legs though never cramped and never got sore, not even a day or two later.
I did wind up with a mild case of sunstroke, despite wearing a ton of sunscreen and a hat...well, the lesson here is next year to have it on a Saturday, so I have a day to recuperate!
Having lunch at about the half way point (36 km). Just behind us (on the right of the pic) is West Edmonton Mall.
Just before the monster climb on Anthony Henday Drive...

Just another happy Canuckistanian living under the so-called US security umbrella...yes, I'm a sarcastic bastard.

"Brave" is what you five are!
I don't think I coulda gone the limit and I ride almost everyday! Great challenge tho! And thanks for the encouragement, I luv the critters and I luv to be of assistance to people and kids. It's a way of keeping the animals alive and it serves a good purpose. Wish more folks felt the same i guess. ('nd ya know, my mom use to live not far from West Edmonton Mall)
Beautiful city, but after living in cities for 40 yrs of my life, I can't anymore for some reason, need the country life now - more room to bike!

**War and abuse make me hurt for the world,
but a rescue that makes the news - gives me hope for mankind...
