Expect Star Trek XI in 2008

In a Variety article talking about how J.J. Abrams has ramped up his film and TV units, the "Lost" co-creator and Mission: Impossible III director confirms that Star Trek XI is on track to be released by Paramount Pictures in 2008. Reports said last week that it might be 2009.
Neither Paramount or Abrams' camp has officially tagged Abrams as the director - he's only producing at this point. We should soon know whether he will take on the role or if another director will come on board.
Abrams is teaming with "Lost" co-creators-writers-producers Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk on the 11th installment of the popular franchise. Burk, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will executive produce.
