Halo movie still up in the air

With Universal and Fox pulling out of the production of HALO, expected to be released in 2008, the question is who will finance the pic.

Sony is out of the question, simply because the Playstation is a direct competitor to Microsoft's X-Box. Likewise Disney is unlikely because of Apple's rivalry with Microsoft (and the fact the Steve Jobs is both a Disney board member and the largest single shareholder of Disney stock). New Line would be the obvious solution, but they are engaged in a dispute over the LOTR series proceeds with Peter Jackson.

That leaves only Warner Bros. and Paramount as studios big enough to finance sucha blockbuster. 2006 hasn't been kind to Warner Bros (financially) and they are balking at the terms required by Microsoft, Peter Jackson, and Alex Garland (originally budgeted for $128 million, with Microsoft and Jackson getting 19% of the gross).

So that leaves Paramount, and they were one of the first studios to walk away from the HALO movie in the first place. It looks like the only way this movie is getting made is if Microsoft and Jackson reduce their deamnds, which isn't likely.
