Movie News -- Star Trek XI
by bootlegga on Mon Sep 11, 2006 10:41 am
Well, seeing as how I work in the movie biz and deal with studios (and their BS) all day long, I've decided when news/trailers about upcoming movies comes out, I'll post it here so you can have first kick at the cat so to speak.
For all you Trekkies, there wil be no Data in the next Star Trek movie, directed by J.J. Abrams. In an interview, he said this;
"I don't think I should play Data anymore. I think I'm too old to play him anymore to be honest," he said. "I think it would look stupid putting that make-up on me at this point. There certain characters that I think work in a youthful way and I think I really skated along the edge in the last couple movies as it was."
Too bad, I liked Data better than most of the characters...
MGM, owned by Sony Pictures, is planning several major new pictures (budget $150-$200 million each)in the next couple of years, including 'The Hobbit', hopefully to be directed by Peter Jackson, 'Terminator 4' and a sequel to 'The Thomas Crown Affair' with Pierce Brosnan. Their goal is to release 2-3 tentpole movies per year.
And if anyone is interested, check out the new Casino Royale trailer;

Just another happy Canuckistanian living under the so-called US security umbrella...yes, I'm a sarcastic bastard.
Arnold Schwarznegger on Climate Change - If 98 doctors tell me my son is ill and needs medication and 2 do not, I listen to the 98. The same can be said about climate change.

I can see why spiner feels that way, but i think its cruel to leave the story of Data they way it left off in nemesis.
Hopefuly one day there will be a new trek series and they can find a way to make an episode exploring it.
