Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's new family film from Disney, Race to Witch Mountain knocked Watchmen, last week's top grossing movie, out of first with $25 million. Watchmen lost almost 70%, taking in only $18 million. Wes Craven's revenge flick, Last House on the Left opened in third with an estimated $14.7 million. Fox's Taken continues to surprise, adding $6.7 million to its gross, for a total of almost $130 million. It also marked its 7th week in the top 5, making it one of the strongest films of the year. Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail slipped three spots to fifth with $5.1 million and a four-week total of $83.2 million, the highest amount grossed by one of Perry's movies to date.
