Someone rifled through my car sometime last night. :?

I went to go for a drive today, and saw that my glove box was open and there were papers all over the front seats and on the floor. The little cubby under the radio/heater was also cleared out, and my Hula Lilo was on the floor. The compartment between the seats where I keep my CDs was wide open, as was the little ash-tray thingy in one of the cup holders.

So far as I can tell, nothing is missing, and I still haven't decided if I'm relieved..... or highly insulted. The little jerk(s) even left the 8ยข in my cup holder.

To make matters worse, when I came back in the house and told a friend what had happened, I got the "you should have known better and have you at least locked the frikken doors now?" lecture.

No sympathy whatsoever. :(

On a happier note, we have a new little hamster. He's a fuzz-ball of a teddy bear hamster, very friendly, and loves to be out exploring in his big ball. He's a caramel colour with a lighter mask, which is the inspiration for his name - Bandit.

I hope he has a long, healthy life. ;) Image

Lily I live in PG and I would never leave my car unlocked ever. I made the mistake once to leave my car unlocked at work, because it's out of the way and you have to know about it to know there is people there. Someone knew, and they rifled through all our vehicles. That was the last time I make the mistake of believing that there is anyone honest left in society.

The only other time my car was ever broken into was about 20 years ago. That time it was locked, but parked out on the street, not in my carport. My tape case was stolen, but nothing else, not even my ball bag with a couple of frailly new gloves. Even though I knew it was random, I still felt "targeted" since the night before I had $300 in cash in the glove box - my friend's share of the damage deposit I returned to her.

My car is locked now, but I still believe most people are honest. Twice in 20 years isn't a crime wave. My neighbourhood is still safe. ;)

The good thing is that nothing was taken. I did the same thing about half a year ago. I left the passenger door unlocked (and left my faceplate in my car) and sure enough, the one day I get a little absent-minded (and complacent) I go to my car the next morning to find someone tried to yank out my system.

That piece of carelessness cost me $300 to replace. Fortunately, the full 32 CD wallet I'd left under the seat sat unnoticed and un-stolen.

i am not so sure that leaving your car unlocked was such a bad thing. Recently the garage where i live was broken into and the "hooligans" targeted random cars. They broke passenger door windows to get in. They riffled through the glove box looking for cash (i guess) and they left everything else there. They stole nothing but it still cost me $300 and the feeling of security that i had from being in a locked gargage with a locked car.

You named your hampster Bandit? 8O Did you name him before or after you were broken into?

I know what you mean. My car wasn't damaged too badly the other time it got broken into, just scrapes and chips, but it was a constant reminder that *someone* had been in my car. It's a creepy feeling to say the least.

Bandit was named a few days earlier, but... coincidence?

hmmmm.......
;)

xerxes...
The first time, the thieves made off with my Johnny Horton tape as well as several Waylon Jennings and the like. I figure that served 'em right!

This time, they left my CDs - Rascal Flatts, Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn, Carrie Underwood, Gretchen Wilson - as well as all the "Hurtin' song" CDs left from my aunt's collection.

Obviously, we're dealing with kids with no taste in music. ;)

I wouldn't have even noticed. Although, that's a great excuse.

Truth be told - it was the open glove box that tipped me off. :D
