Day 16: Jun 19, 2007: Ottawa, ON

This morning we went to the Museum of War and ended up spending most of the day there! It’s probably my favourite style of museum, where it’s like walking through a large, 3D book. The museum covered all the wars in Canada, from early conflict in the first-nations to the cold war and peacekeeping missions, they even had an exhibit on the war in Afghanistan. They also have a couple of veterans as employees who walk around the exhibits and answer questions. We talked with this one tank expert for what must have been like 45 minutes. He sure knew everything about tanks!

After the museum we met up with one of Trevor’s friends for dinner, Charles. He’s a really nice guy and hanging out with him was super fun! He even offered us a place for the night because we hadn’t gotten a hotel. So that was awesome!

Oh, but lastly I must mention that the meds I bought have done pretty much nothing, both Trevor and I now are constantly miserable, I’m convinced that I’m allergic to Ottawa. Also I kind of twisted my ankle a little. It’s not serious, just a little swollen and will make stairs kind of tricky for a few days.

Day 17: Jun 20, 2007: Ottawa, ON to Montreal, PQ

On our last day in Ottawa, we fought through Gatineau traffic to get to Parliament. We were lucky enough to have coordinated a meeting with another one of Trevor’s friends from his website, Mike, who is one of the security personnel at the hill! He was able to take us on a private tour of the Parliament building which was really really cool! We got to go to places that aren’t available to the public. We even got to meet Stephane Dion, which was really cool for Trevor because he’s a big supporter. By the way, Stephane Dion is super tall, which I didn’t expect, for some reason I always thought he was really short, but he’s a few inches taller than Trevor, even!

So, yeah, the tour of Parliament was definitely the jewel in the crown of our Ottawa stay. Afterwards we decided to head to Ottawa, which was a short 2 hour hop from Ottawa. We’re going to be staying in Montreal for quite awhile, because my dad has an apartment in Lachine that we can stay in for free. It will be our mini-vacation within our vacation, which sounds ridiculous but we need it because we’re always very “go go go!” when we travel.

The next day or two, I think, will be just for R and R, catching up on business for Trevor. Trevor’s allergies have gotten even worse in the last few days and are showing no signs of alleviating. I’m actually getting kind of worried about him, it’s pretty bad.

So, sorry, the blog may be kind of light the next few days because we’re exploring this island slowly and easily.

Day 18: Jun 21, 2007: Montreal, PQ

Jammed about all day, Trevor sleeps during the day because he fails to sleep at night :/ Hopefully he'll either feel better tomorrow or will feel worse enough that he'll agree to see a doctor.

What type of allergy medications have you tried? And do you know what it is that you are allergic to specifically?

Either way, I hope you both feel better soon. I definately know how bad allergies can make you a very miserable person!! Enjoy your vacation within the vacation in QC!

Is the security personnel someone from this site? Now I'm curious as to whom it could be.....

P.S. No Museum of Civilization pics????

wow, what a trip you guys are on! Kinda neat, following you across and i've been to a lot of places you stopped or passed (not too many ways to go across i guess other than state side)
Now that you are in montreal - you're at a lower altitude than what you are accustomed to.
High altitudes have lesser oxygen, lower has more,
sometimes when you go from a high altitude to a low altitude, the pressure build up can make you feel heavy in the chest, tired or bogged down - it's more humid too and pollution is higher - people with some asthma feel it more than others and you may even notice a slag in the car too, something to do with the carborator - another example is when you bake a cake, on the back of the box, where the instructions are it'll stipulate what temp to cook at if you are in a high altitude or low... so if you do go to a hospital or clinic, mention that you think it might be the altitude change - i hope it's not a bug or restaurant food - and speaking of food, if you go downtown on st catherines for a Dunn's smoked meat and cheese cake or a Dusty's Brunch off of Park Ave and Mount Royal - i don't wanna know... :>) *sigh
Cool pics and hope you guys enjoy the rest of your trip, will keep hoppin in.

Jeez Trev, you couldn't have managed a better facial expression when you were shaking Dion's hand?!? :P

Hope you guys can get some effective medicine for your allergies. It must be pretty rough - so much of that pollen-like fuzz floating around in the air this time of year.

Trevor hates meds and he's loathe to try anything, regardless of how bad he feels, ever. I gave him a Claritin extra strength, but it didn't work. He's better now, though, so I guess it worked out.
