Variety recently reported that Terrence Howard (Crash, Hustle & Flow, Four Brothers) has joined the cast of Iron Man, and will play the part of Jim Rhodes.
Quote:
Terrence Howard is set to join Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man.
The Jon Favreau-directed film is the first to be financed through an arrangement that Marvel Studios formed with Merrill Lynch. Paramount Pictures releases the film May 2, 2008.
Howard will play Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes, the confidante of Iron Man's alter ego, Tony Stark. Rhodes, a high ranking military officer and aviator, steers the team that develops the robotic suit that allows the sickly Stark to fly around and battle bad guys. In the comic, Rhodes' character gets his own armored suit and evolves into an occasionally antagonistic character called War Machine. That development seems likely to be saved for the sequel, though, as Iron Man will battle villain the Mandarin when shooting begins in February in L.A.
"The suit is purely an innovative creation, so this is Marvel meets Tom Clancy technology," Marvel Studios production president Kevin Feige said. "Having the best actors for the key roles allows them to inhabit the hyperkinetic reality of this world."
And while this isn't technically movie news, it appears that the Bionic Woman will be coming back to the small screen sometime soon.
Quote:
"Battlestar Galactica" executive producer David Eick is teaming with feature screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis to reinvent "The Bionic Woman" for NBC, says Variety. Eick and Kalogridis will executive produce a new take on "Bionic," a 1970s spinoff of "The Six Million Dollar Man" in which Lindsay Wagner played tennis pro-turned-superwoman Jamie Sommers. The series aired for two seasons on ABC before shifting to NBC in 1977 for its final year.
"It's a complete reconceptualization of the title," Eick told the trade. "We're using the...

Day 10: Jun 13, 2007: Niagra Falls, ON to Toronto, ON
Woke up this morning and went to experience the falls. I don’t know what to say about Niagra! It’s a waterfall and it’s really big. Canada’s side is better.
First we went on the Maid of the Mist which, as always, didn’t disappoint! Journey behind the falls, however, was a bit silly and not as good as I remembered. But I didn’t remember much. After that we simply walked around and enjoyed the view of the falls and the parks. Lastly we stopped at Ripley’s Motion Simulator Movie thing, which we got last night as part of our museum ticket. And, well, I’ve been on a few motion simulator rides in my time and this was not the best. Not… even up there, actually. But, whatever.
On our way out we passed by the rapids, the hydro plant, and Brock’s monument. Brock’s monument and Park is all about the war of 1812. The monument is huge! It’s so tall!
After the monument, it was straight to Toronto! Which wasn’t very far at all. But we did have to introduce ourselves to Toronto traffic and gridlock. Without air conditioning, being at a standstill was not the best, but thankfully it didn’t last TOO long. Toronto is so big!! I’ve been to Toronto before, but being able to directly compare it to every other city makes it plain to see just how massive of a city it is. Finding a hotel was a bit of a nightmare. Every hotel we found was soooo expensive and usually full. It took us forever, but we finally found a room in a hostel that was a converted dorm of U of T.
I grew up in Montreal, so I think I’...

THEY'RE STARTING!
I'm going to be releasing the awards in serialized format, as I don't have them all completely written, but fuck it, I'm sick of the bitching about the delays.
Here's the kick-off award:
Dummy Matt Award
WIAF asked if anybody other than Dummy Matt getting the Dummy Matt Award would be some sort of an abomination. Well, originally I had planned on actually scouring the boards for somebody who exemplified the same characteristics of Dummy Matt who wasn’t Dummy Matt. Deep down, I thought it would be refreshing and surprising for fanaholics to read about somebody else.
I failed. Or, Dummy Matt just succeeded at being one of the stupidest cunts to ever lurk the earth. What’s better? He didn’t even have to try.
During the summer of ‘06, Dummy Matt horribly embarrassed himself in a stunning display of self-implosion. He then, thankfully, fucked off from the board for a few months, licking his wounds, looking at Tiger Tank books at Chapters, telling people at the bus-stop how to do their Sudoku puzzles, getting drunk and shitting in the bar urinals each Saturday night before stumbling home to pass out in the mud-room.
But, like the 21st century online equivalent of chicken pox, Dummy Matt came back in the form of shingles, amazingly never have learned a damn thing and barfing out the same tired racist attitudes, platitudes and failed attempts at intellectually hating brown people.
Reading through his posts, he’s convinced me he’s beyond hope. Almost to a formula, he begins be selecting something that brown people have done to which he takes offence (deserved or not), compares it disfavourably to Western society (which he doesn’t understand but nonetheless exalts without explanation), followed by angry dummy fist-slamming.
I used to t...

I'm finally back home. Though how my legs survived the journey, I don't know. I say that because on the flight back I got stuck in a window seat behind a huge guy who, the second the seatbelt sign came off, put his seat back and slept like a deadmen. Oh and the food sucked. I'm never flying Air Transat again. I think the next vaction I take will be somewhere on this continent so I don't have to fly for too long.
Either way, it's good to be back home. As cool as it is to travel to different places and see different sights, it's still immensely satisfying to come back home and sleep in your own comfy bed, take showers in showers you know how to tweak perfectly, and watch Jon Stewart of course. This is probably going to sound a little sad, but of all the things I missed while I was gone for the last two and a half weeks, it was the Daily Show I missed the most.
I also think I'll take Arctic's suggestion and turn this into a random rants blog. I'll also post some random pics and vids which will either be funny, interesting, and maybe occasionally nsfw.

Perhaps a global political apocalypse has already arrived.
Activists and dissidents should understand that evil forces and tyrannical governments have evolved. Just as human knowledge and science expand, so do the strategies and instruments used by rulers, elites and plutocrats. By learning from history and using new technology they have smarter tools of tyranny. The best ones prevent uprisings, revolutions and political reforms. Rather than violently destroy rebellious movements, they let them survive as marginalized and ineffective efforts that divert and sap the energy of nonconformist and rebellious thinkers. Real revolution remains an energy-draining dream, as evil forces thrive.
Most corrupt and legally sanctioned forms of tyranny hide in plain sight as democracies with free elections. The toughest lesson is that ALL elections are distractions. Nothing conceals tyranny better than elections. Few Americans accept that their government has become a two-party plutocracy run by a rich and powerful ruling class. The steady erosion of the rule of law is masked by everyday consumer freedoms. Because people want to be happy and hopeful, we have an epidemic of denial, especially in the present presidential campaign. But to believe that any change-selling politician or shift in party control will overturn the ruling class is the epitome of self-delusion and false hope. In the end, such wishful thinking perpetuates plutocracy. Proof is that plutocracy has flourished despite repeated change agents, promises of reform and partisan shifts.
The tools of real rebellion are weak. Activists and dissidents look back and see successful rebellions and revolutions and think that when today’s victims of tyranny experience enough pain and see enough...

Lec Besson, director of quite a few moderately successful action films (The Professional, 5th Element, Transporter, Crank, District B13) has announced several sequels he has planned.
He is planning a sequel to District B13, an action film set in a dystopian future Paris, and mentioned the possibility of a Transporter 3 (dependent on a good script) as well as two sequels for the Arthur and the Invisibles movie (based on series of books written by Besson himself. Arthur and the Invisibles is inwide release in France currently (over 5 million attendance) and soon to be released in North America.
His latest project is Taken, an action film starring Liam Neeson as an ex-soldier who's daughter is kidnapped by slave traders. Neeson has to track her down before she is shipped out of the country.

I'm not exactly sure what's going through my head, but next weekend I hope to come home from Prince George with a new leather couch, and a week or two later my KITTEN will be old enough to come live with me!
I'm super excited because I'm finally totally and completely caught up financially after the incident at work, so I've decided to reward myself with some comfortable seating space.

And the kitty! She's mostly black with white tips on her paws and some white on her face. So cute! I think I'm going to buy her a super duper scratching post with all the bells and whistles so that the couch doesn't look so intriguing.
I don't think I've ever mentioned the incident at work, so here it is. Back in January, I asked the sawmill's superintendent if I could take a leave of absence so that I could do the Occupational First Aid 3 course at the end of March, so that I didn't have to use the only two weeks of holidays that I'm entitled. That wasn't a problem. Because I was doing the first aid, he said that he could get both the course, AND my time off paid for. Guess I should have gotten that part in writing.
I went, did the course, and passed with high marks (91% on the written, 100% on the practical).
Let me tell you, those two weeks were anything but a holiday. I had to be up at 6 every morning, so I could leave at 7 to be in class in Vanderhoof by 8. Add 9 hours of class time and another 45 min. drive home just to study for a couple hours before succumbing to sleep.
ANYWAY, I brought in my certificate and the receipt for the course to work for the superintendent to look at. WITH my foreman and chargehand in the office, he looked at the receipt and asked me why I brought that. I repeated what he had said back in January. The asshole then had the nerve to say, and I quote,
"I never said anything like that. You're changing your story after the fact".
Yessir....

5 years ago, an event took place on this day that would change the world forever. While controversy arises, and conspiracy theorists show their heads, and while many questions remain unanswered, we all must remember that 3,000 people died needlessly on that day.
May their souls rest in peace...
We shall remember September 11, 2001. 9/11

I have never blogged before. I am not a blogger at heart. But in the last few years I have immersed myself in deep thought and meditation. Today I spent some hours thinking about why crickets chirp. I could have googled it or checked it out at the library. Probably my friend Emmy Lou would know but I was loathe to call her. She is a night owl and needs her day rest.
I needed a cricket or two to study but where to find one when one needs one? The basement would be an obvious choice as would the attic.
Unfortunately as lady luck would have it I have neither.
Well no problem I would will two to appear. Preferably one of each gender.
Well after an hour I thought maybe I would get lucky. I thought I heard the pitter patter of tiny feet under the rifle cabinet. Some chirps accompanied the steps but that turned out to be a Tony Bennett special on NBC. In desperation I called Emmy Lou.
Would you believe that she is away on a European vacation?
Visiting Constantinople, then going on to Roma.
