Sometime ago, I began a site that is for Pet Owners to register their pet's spay and neuter ear tattoo numbers. I stopped work on it with so much going and.... AND I was totally discouraged by an email I received from someone I had respected!
One of the vets I dealt with, having taken in 32 of the critters to their clinic, contacted me - angry and insulted by the listing! I was floored!
She went on how vets like in her clinic have helped hundreds track back owners through pet's ear tatto numbers and that searching out the tatty's was free...
I tried to explain that if they helped out "hundreds" then that meant that regular folks had no clue where to look and that some vets charged a fee for their time to seek out the information... plus - tatty's vary from province to province and state to state, meaning that just because an animal is living in Alberta, doesn't mean that a previous owner who had lived in Ontario, moved west and gave away or sold their pet to someone who had lived in Alberta all their life....
The Listing, is a means for the rescue to make an honest buck, while helping pet owners feel reassured that their pet is posted on the net, in case the pet goes missing.
There is a "one time" fee - for the lifetime of the pet - of a huge $15.00 - this is what my old vet clinic was offended about that inspired the controversial email I was sent in scorn!
This "fee" includes a picture of the animal, (with no picture, just a descript, med requirements, scars etc and the ear tattoo number is $10.) a complete description, medical requirements if any, scars and or markings, the registered Spay Neuter number and the name of the Vet Clinic where the animal was altered. (no personal contact #'s unless folks wish it) If an animal lives to be 13-14 yrs old and is added when they are a year old - that fee boils down to less than a DOLLAR a year!!! (what were they mad about?)
The Listing is found at
http://find.animals-alone.com and the site promotes the placement of Pet's Spay or Neuter Tattoo Numbers - with a name like "Find Animals Alone" it use to come up readily in search engines - might not now, because I haven't touched the site in almost a year -BUT I will be shortly due to an incident that has totally inspired me to get back to work on it!
I recently had a friend who's dog disappeared while walking her (She is still Missing and anyone in the High River Ab. area, please keep a look out for a sweet small Basenji. She stands 15 inches high from ground to her ears.....she has white socks and a white chest and collar, the rest is red, she has a curly tail like a pig and a very muscular body - she answers to "Bobbi" - she kinda looks like the dog from the movie "The Mask" - there are posters out and there's a newspaper ad that comes out tomorrow - PLEASE get a hold of me if you see her!!! Or if you've seen the ads or newspaper, CALL!
At any rate, in my effort to suggest ways to find her, I looked up the ear tattoo number listing for Alberta and got back to my friend with the information, in hopes that maybe someone was looking for the vet who tattoed her. My friend informed me that she wasn't altered in Ab (she is a show dog and not altered) and that her ear tattoo number was done in Duncan B.C. - well, there went that theory and the theory of the scorned Vet who emailed me...
If you have an altered Pet,
please consider placing your pet on Tattoo-Find!!!
The site will be getting worked on and updated, with new search engine words and then submitted to the engines. The more the site gets used, the more it'll come up and be recognized - The fees help support the shelter and in case of a pet going missing, helps support the return of Pets to their loving pet parents!!!!
$10.00: is a ONE TIME fee, that gets your pet a LIFETIME placement! A complete description, markings, scars, medical requirements if any and a contact number.
