Wolf Within

A sweet kitty cat on the outside, but ... Beware of that Wolf Within

Overtime, with people population expanding, so has the desire to obtain pets - in this case -Cats-
What folks don't realize is that they get sick just like we do and cats do have more than 130 genes in common with people. The more research they do, the more they discover AND it is one of the reasons they do horrible medical testing on cats, "in the name of saving people" (because they have more in common with people than what they care to admit - it would make it inhumane! If they are so much like people, then why don't they have similar rights? - another topic and issue for another time.)

The point I'm trying to make is that viruses are deadly to cats, much the same as some viruses are to people.
A loving pet owner, who takes good care of their cat, doesn't realize that even if their kitty has all their shots, is up to date on health care, that if their neighbor's cat isn't as well taken care of, then their cat can make the healthy one sick.

My personal goal in the village I lived in, was to tend to the sick strays, so that it made a healthier environment for people's outdoor cats (yes that's allowed in rural areas)
With healthier strays, pets that encountered them (which is inevitable) weren't getting sick as much, so that pushed me even more!

Taking care of "life" is part of the bottom line and in one entry on the boards, I think it was "grainfedprairieboy" who brought to mention that when there is over population of any kind, nature will take care of itself and disease will wipe out species to bring down the numbers.
Cats are no different.
The sad part is, that loving pet owners, who take care of their cat(s) and follow normal procedures to make sure their pet is ok - are devestated when their cat comes down with a virus that is life threatening or can cause some serious sickness.
Truth of the matter is, that some viruses, can be beat, there is a risk that the cat could turn for the worse, however, with lots of love, attention and care, they can and DO beat it!
Vets however are determined to wipe out these viruses and they see the only option as euthanization -

Time and time again, we hear in the news:
SPCA puts down 150 Cats
Humane Society puts down 200 Cats

WHY? Because it all started with taking in ONE cat - maybe TWO, who carried or were carriers, so they put down the whole lot of them!!!! "to be on the safe side"
meanwhile innocent, loving little kitties, awaiting someone to come along and take them home - fall victims and their lives are ended because of one, maybe two cats that were brought into the shelter - that were sick.

Why cats aren't immediately given blood tests BEFORE being put in population is again, another story - to me, all are put down because there is just sooooo many that are being brought in, that the spaces get filled within a week or two.

While kittens are just the sweetest thing to cat lovers, breeding is a no-no unless one is a breeder (not a back yard breeder!)
There's more critters - dogs alike - than there is people to accommodate them and for this - I blame people!!!!!

I have a petition up, that asks for Cheap or Free Spay and Neuter Clinics in Canada - to HELP PEt OWners be responsible!!!!

The States have vans that are fully equipped and travel districts on designated days - especially meant for Spaying and Neutering Pets! CHEAP! It's up to the PEt OWner to tend to them after they've been operated and yes, males are a little easier to tend to than the females, since females need an actual operation and meds thereafter.

To bring down populations, rather than see continual numbers being born - would GREATLY Hinder Viruses and innocent pets would not be the victims.
Everyone is a victim when populations are irresponsibly born. The innocent lives of the new borns who did not ask for an unhealthy and painful life, the innocent lives of loved pets and the people who love them - all are victims and there is a solution.
Like I said, Vets will immediately suggest to put the critter down, even though there are meds to help and hinder, then later vaccine.
But there is a wild strain that vets don't know how to handle, so to avoid further complications, euthanization is their answer.

Please think about these things and if you have time, please sign the petition!

PLEASE SIGN!!!

Due to this humble petition from 24 months ago, more and more societies are creating their own or are using it as an example to obtain more funding to create a Spay-Neuter PRogram! It's a start and the SPCA does now have a clinic in Prince George or Albert - that does cheap or free spay neuter clinics.

Let's stop the killing of lives that weren't meant to be and stop the hurt that pet owners go through when their pets fall victim, it's UNFAIR! and UNneccesary!
bye for now
