I've been conversing with a woman in Calgary who took a liking to one of the kittens from the slide show. She found me through my Ads on Kijjiji and contacted me to see if I had any kittens, so I referred her to the slide show. She had a cat for 17 years and lost her sweetie last year, so it's taken time for another to catch her heart and now she starts anew with "Felix" a beautiful white and orange spotted kitten.
I spoke to her Vet who informed me that an appointment was made by his client for next month, to have Felix neutered and his shots, making Felix almost 5 months old and that sits just fine by me!
I don't usually let kittens go up for adoption until they are 6-7 months old - fostering yes, Fostering from 3-6 months old and the ticket to adoption is having them altered.
If the Foster parent wants to keep a kitten, but does not discuss having the animal altered and then takes them to be altered or has them altered on request by me (us), then adoption is out of the question. Once our funding becomes more lucrative, I will simply take the animals myself by that age and have them altered- then if the Foster parent wants to adopt, then all that remains is the adoption fee.
At any rate, I felt good about letting Felix leave and start a new life with this woman. He'll be missed, but I have a hunch she will keep her word and send me pics! She has 2 weeks to decide if the little rascal "is at home" with her, but from her excitement and responsible booking with her vet, I doubt he'll be back.
Because he was not altered or been to the vet for his shots as yet (he's almost 4 months old) I did not charge a fee and she kindly donated $50. (that was great cuz I still have 5 kittens to feed that are different ages (all under 4 months old) and that'll help get more wet food and kitten crunchies for the gaffers)
I found out today that I am finally getting a divorce here shortly - that's great news, I've been worried about my assets and debts of the ex's - it's been almost 9 years we've been apart! (we were only married for 10 Months!) He's a crazy man and I have enough accepting responsibilities for my own actions, let alone someone elses because I am bonded to the past. Nine years has been a bit of a wait but finally good news has come through on that end, he has finally agreed - so soon that will go through and I can finish my back taxes and get a return!!!! Yes!
Then, I was asked if I wanted to work painting houses that have been moved... well ya!!! I am booking 2 courses I need to Foster a couple of kids and that'll take place this winter. Once my courses are completed and I get accepted, then hopefully I can bring out at least 2 kids and then I 'll stay home again and be with the kids and critters. Employment round these parts comes few and far between - alot of manual labor jobs with farming but at the age I'm getting manual labor is getting hard. Lord knows i do enuff of it with the critters, the recreation vehicules and housework - and I really pulled something when I beat up the winnebego a couple of days ago, my right shoulder and elbow is saying - you go ahead, I'll just "hang" here.... ouch!
Then I kinda dismissed 4 of my board members yesterday - having the licence returned by Corporate Registry for alterations was a bad for a good. I can understand that folks are busy but not one of them has so much as even made a phone call for info or helped work towards our fundraisers. It has taken 4 years to build things and the positions were ready and waiting for them, but nothing has been done and not much good has come about in the past year either - so it was time to find new people who can function somewhat as a team. Pick up a phone and get some info, find new sponsors or throw around ideas to spice up the fundraisers on plan...
I'm looking for people who are actively involved with rescueing critters or working with kids and/or endorse the benefits of animals and kids - and I'm quite certain that with folks who endorse those type of activities - alot more progress and activity will occur.
Funny cuz when people know you're in a bind, it's easy to take advantage or exploit and a couple were just taking info back to my opposition and were hanging out with them... no wonder nothing good happened. Oh, they were just doing me a favor sitting on the board, well, adios! And another, well she's been off travelling and working on the road with her man, so that is understandable but I need a couple of folks who "want" to see something good happen.
When I first inquired about a loan about 7-8 months ago - I was asked "What about your Board Members? What are they doing to help?" and I replied that we were all new at this and my board was of humble means - well that's ok, but actions do speak louder than words and if no one could pick up a phone to make a phone call or email potential sponsors - then there's half my problem right there. Bylaws ask that Board Members contribute $1,000 in time - whether it be with their professional services, lending a hand with chores or financing and if there is no implementation of either - or, then resignation is expected. (i'll be updating the bylaws on the net, it's in the original agreement that the Board Members sign) Shame, cuz I like the ladies, was hoping for a better outcome and life does change, so they are busy and I need a little more than what was happening.
So I'm on the hunt for a few Board Members if anyone is interested and lives in Alberta.
Hope little Felix is doing good on his first night in his new home and I hope that that great gal gets "some" sleep.... and I'll be a free woman soon - no bars hold!
And hopefully by next week, I'll be finished moving everything and settling myself down.
The animals are just luv luv luving the new accommodations and some of the home made cages. I still have one guy that I have to keep seperated from everyone else and he has no cage, then there's several that need cages of their own. Those that are not yet altered, need to be seperated and there are 8 on my waiting list - to be taken in, that don't have cages as yet.
One of my Volunteers, has built me a 4 cage system. I had kinda drafted a design - on paper- of cages that had pull out center walls so I could enlargen them or make them smaller for single or double occupants. Well, he made one of the cages with a pull out center wall so I can leave it as 2 cages or pull out the middle and turn it into one big cage. It's pretty cool!
I had an offer from a family in DeWinton for cages off my Kijjiji Ad. I sent them out an email before coming here. My computer guy heads out that way and he said he'd pick up the couple of cages that they have offered. So there's a couple of cages that are much NEEDED.
Bit by bit, it'll take time to get back up to where I was, it's getting there and with the right team, things could just fly. Am on the hunt and think I snagged a galpal who will work with me on getting my Play uo and running. She and her hubby have offered to help anyway, so I asked that at least one of them be on the Board. We'll see.
Packing to do and chores are calling!
