I wrote a letter to the Humane Society and yes, I bitched type thing, sent along documents of occurances, pictures, court papers, some billings that were zipped along with totals of all vet bills, menu foods case and our intentions for the future.
I PRAY, they works something out with us and sponsor us in some shape or form!
I know of two other ones who they sponsor and I'm amazed that they do, so it certainly is worth a try!
I'm pooped, mentally, physically and financially - 6 years is a considerably long time to be basically self supporting and again, I can't thank those who have helped - enough, it has meant so much! Every bit has so-o helped and not just financially either, but mentally because I can't explain how defeating it all feels sometimes - I truly love the crew and so wish that I had good homes to put them in. Some folks don't understand that even animals have characters - to break those characters, is well as inhumane as it is to hinder a child's character.
Character is what makes each living breathing - being, unique, individual and special -
I really do have 4 that prefer to pee on the toilet - and no, they do not make any kind of a mess, you wouldn't know they'd been there unless you see them yourself! Now how cool is that?
I wish they all did (and then again, there'd be such a line up to use the toilet, I might not get in myself! lol)
As for mice, in spite of myths that if you feed them they don't catch mice, well, it is their nature to prey - it's the thrill of the catch and for cats to eat mice, it's not a good thing for them. Cats who stricly eat mice don't usually live longer than 5-7 yrs - mice carry so many diseases -
I PRAY, that the Humane Society likes what we see for the future and with this new investment, I hope they see the seriouness of our intent.
We aren't going for the first place - shame becuz I contacted the Mayor and she approved our intention, the part that saddens me is that it was an arsty fartsy kinda place and I would have fit right in - a river that forked right there and only 171 people! I see grat potential in tourism, gas and oil workers by the handfuls, government sinking a lot of money in the area, but oh well, at 51, I can't see myself and my 33 yr old daughter jumping in a $275,000.00 for a house and the motel - what a great place tho! Was a senior's complex, 8 full suites, kitchen, living room and bedroom - rents for $70 a night - specials for the workers -
This new place has 15 rooms and a house - we go see it within the next few days. It's also $100,000. cheaper - a private sale, so we're hoping we can work something out, I'm still shy $5,000 - I do have 2 contracts lined up - one is to paint a store front in Nanton and the other is to paint a fence for a farmer. Hopefully by the time both are done I come ahead another $1,000. - my daughter has the same and a buddy said that if we come up with the $2,000 then he'll match it, so we're getting there!
Gee, who talks money in their blog?
Well I guess being a non profit, funding is something that is first on the agenda.
Folks in the village/county were so concerned that I was making "profit" (on them) - humph - to have had a little extra, would have made the world of difference and anyone who understands anything about - business - would have seen that we certainly aren't doing what we do for huge benefits - one other shelter owner who came out, wrote me up a 4 page letter - she made sure she mentioned that I was not making any kind of profit and at that time, maintaining 2 houses - cat and dog food, vet bills, mortgage, gas, electric, taxes - $11,000.00 didn't make ends meet but it helped tremendously!
At least then we were getting $500. - $1,000 donations - but not anymore!
Who runs one household on $11,000.00 a year - never mind the extras - even apartment dwellers spend more!
If someone had of told me that this woulda been so hard, I NEVER would have believed them! Never! Especially after seeing what the SPCA makes and other shelters, I can't believe what has happened.
I'm a very talented and frivulous individual - I love the challenge of taking something "old" and making something new - I don't care much for going out on the town, I DON'T drink, I have started smoking again (F@#*K i'm upset with myself over that one and am tryin' to cut back, once things settle it'll be easier to quit again)
I set up an MSN Group to refer folks to, where they can see what my daughter and I can accomplish with close to nothing and it has some of the things I did at the old Crossraods Market over the 10 yrs I maintained a contract with them...
So for those who are just a tad curious, please take a gander over at our portfolio, we're not out to screw anybody! We just want to make an honest living...
Portfolio of Past Contracts and Work and for the hell of it, some of the creative projects I offer on the net in my msn webgroup (65 members!) at:
