This is my most used trap and it works quite efficiently too!
I put it out on the front porch to clean it up as I have 2 in the house that I need to trap when it comes time to move. (out of the few I have left in comparison, there's 3 I can't really touch)
I found it funny that the trap "gillotine" door was closed, so for the heck of it, I went out to open it and to MY surprise, there was a young skunk in it, doing a tap dance when I opened it! And no, this little guy and I are buds, so no it didn't spray, I usually have to chase it away from my garbage in the late evenings - now Mama on the other hand, is HUGE! bigger than any skunk I've ever seen! These guys help with mice control but the older and more wild, do not get along with kitties and my dog had a bout with her late one night, when I realized something was going on outside, I opened the door and WOW, what a reak! The dog didn't smell all that great either! I haven't seen her since, only her young, so I hope the dog didn't hurt her and that I caught her on time.
Out of everything I'll miss here, is the wildlife!
I have seen so much of it, it has left a mark on my very soul.
Four nights ago, I was trying to catch one of the guys who wouldn't come back in - yes, I've let a few out lately - they need to be outside, I only let out the ones that come back like dogs, Ginger however, helped himself to going out. When I saw a figure run down towards the gravel road, I walked down ever so quietly thinking I was going to catch the rascal, but no, it wasn't him, it was a fox pup!
There were two actually and when they saw me, they didn't know quite what to do - they ran and then stopped and then started back towards me! I slowly sat down, so they started to dart to the tall grass and stopped, then headed towards me. One came so close, he smelt my knee - what a beauty!! I suppose if I Was a chicken farmer, I wouldn't appreciate them, but what a sight these two were.
About 3 weeks ago, I was cleaning and was about to start the vacum cleaner when I noticed a shadow pass the living room window - it was a deer looking in the house!
Last week, the moon was awesome on the lake, so I sat in the car to avoid being eaten by mosquitos - it was soo peaceful, a bit of a break that I needed and suddenly, I felt something heavy, moving on my leg - it was a mouse!
Another night, I was sitting in the car and a bird flew onto the hood and started eating the collection of bugs on the wind shield wipers, it was about 18" from my face.
I was walking the dog about 9 days ago, when I noticed a string of something coming towards me... as we got closer, I sent the dog back to the house and turned ever so nicely to do the same, it was a family of badgers taking a stroll. I later heard that the momma attacked a car tire of a vehicule that came to close! Glad we left when we did.
There's a coyote around that looks to me has a bullet in his hind leg, he walks with a limp and springs as opposed to full out running - this one has come quite close to the house, so much so, that I came around the corner of the house the other night while moving out boxes - that we startled each other when ICame around the corner - we were about 5' away from each other. I looked down not to intimidate it and as soon as I did, it fled.
I had a baby eagle sitting on the upstairs balcony in the last snow storm - i was in awe - so beautiful and of course a busted digital so no pics - I would have LOVED to paint that! Poor babe was covered in snow!
Deer, Partridges, Owls, mice, skunks, badgers, foxes, coyotes, eagles, hawks and even cows have all paid me a visit.
Of everything, this is what I'll miss of this place when I move...
and for the heck of it, this pic was sent to me by a friend - is it cool or what?
break time is over, am outta here for now.
