Too late being sorry now. I think people who are convicted of SERIOUS crimes should be named. I don't understand why they are being protected after all they are going to be in prison for a very long time if convicted and will be well past 18.

Or even worse, they commit their crime the day before their 18th BD and we can't know their name! I understand for 12/13 yo's, but give me a break. After that, they should be fair game.

On maturity....At this point in my life many of us reflect on our life.....

I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. And I am starting to understand DAD saying he spent his life proving that boys never grow up.....

Everyone of these little bastards that gets convicted of ANY crime should be sentenced to a minimum of 6 months in a military 'boot camp'.For more serious crimes such as assault with a weapon or murder should result in a minimum of 7-10 years, again in a military boot camp.
A new 'twist' on this would be that if any crime was comitted by more than one assailant, then each assailant would be considered a 'weapon' to the other assailants involved whether any 'other' weapons were used or not. For is it not true that the majority of these low-lifes otherwise do not have the balls to commit crimes alone. They get their 'strenght' from each other. Such a law, fully applied would go a long way to eradicating gangs. And no more 'time off for good behaviour'. Ten years means ten years!

This brings up the relative merits of rehabilitation, revenge and deterant.

All are debatable.

My position is that deterents work for most---or parking meters would not get fed money. There is a problem with a society without consequences.

Then there is the situations that some societies are more violent than others....

1000 years past Iceland was the most violent society in all of Europe.....now it is the least----why?

I like the "maimed" idea.

Yogi, military boot camp is right on the mark. Though I wouldn't want to burden our fine soldiers with these less than useless beings, I would endorse punishment actually being punishment as opposed the rehabilitation facilities we as tax payers seem to be supporting.

This from the article:

Quote:
"I hate you," Nina's mother, Peacha Atkinson, told the convicted killer.

"I wish you the same pain Nina felt that night. I hope you hear her screams for the rest of your life. I wish you have sleepless nights like I do."

Rest In Peace, little one.

Why protect 12 and 13 year olds? Every child should know by the age of 5 that it is wrong to hurt people. If they don't know by then, they would soon learn from their peers if the authorities would allow nature to take its course. These days, if a child fights back against a bully, he gets punished and the bully goes free.
There were always bullies in school, In my school days bullies usually got ganged up on and the sh** beat out of them. Teachers knew who the bully was and did nothing. Parents could rant and rave all they wanted but nobody listened. The bully learned his lesson.
Children let away with bad behavior don't usually improve. They get to thugs in training.
