Today in a newspaper here, there was an article stating that Brits who are interested are encouraged to go to Alberta as various skills are needed.

Is this really the case?

That is all Work Permit.

Once you moved, you need to apply for a PR-visa through the PNP-process, which is way faster then waiting for your application to be issued in London.

But... being on a WP in Canada, means when you get fired, you have to go back to where you came from. AB is a terrible province regarding rules and regulations. When you have a trade, you need to take your exam within 6 months after you started you job. Failing means not hbeing allowed to work in your trade, means you can go back home.
If you cannot trade your drivers licence, you need to take the tests, and you lose your UK one. (which also happens when you come as pr...)

Then again, they already issued LMO's so you can be there (when hired) before the end of the summer...

Man they could get someone killed in that first 6 months if they don't know how to work safely. I'm surprised they even allow that much time.

Its not about that.

You have to do your education again. The one you already did in your home country? Where you were taught safety too, and imo, Europe has better rules than Canada

It is just the paperwork that isn't worth anything in Canada, but they like your experience

I suppose I can understand the education requirements to a certain extent, then again I am not a brain surgeon or something, my job does not really impact on peoples lives.

I think I have experience which could be useful to Canada, I have no shortage of employment agencies contacting me here, I am just not sure if I can transfer those skills over there. What is the best way of finding out?

What do you do?
Even a welder or a mechanic has to do AB exams.

I don't think I understand your second paragraph though.

The best way of finding out, is just come over. Get a list of employers, book appointments (interviews), and talk to them.

There are lots of government websites that you can obtain the information you need, just surf the net.

How much do they pay in Alberta for Asphalt haulers? I also gotta dump to a spreader. Im getting 18 an hour rite now, I only started last week, plus time and half. Im not planning to go thier anytime soon.
