A Crowsnest Pass woman has pleaded guilty in connection to a brutal bar fight in March that left several people injured and will be spending the next two years behind bars.
On April 28 in Pincher Creek provincial court, the 32-year-old woman pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm and obstruction of justice. Another charge was dismissed.
The woman and her male partner were arrested by Crowsnest Pass RCMP in connection to a late night baseball bat assault on Saturday, March 15 at the Cos bar in Blairmore.
According to witnesses, the dispute began earlier in the evening, when several individuals got into an argument with the convicted woman and her boyfriend at the popular night spot.
Several threats were made between the two parties, and the man and woman subsequently left the bar. The pair soon returned sporting baseball bats, and proceeded to assault their adversaries within the bar.
Several people were injured during the brutal assault. The female struck two of her opponents on the side of their heads, injuring them both. The male used his bat to break another male’s arm. Bar patrons were able to overpower the bat-swinging duo, disarming them and restraining the male until police arrived. The female managed to flee the scene in a red pickup truck , but was later arrested by police.
The woman received a total of 26 months in prison for both the assault and for giving police a false name upon arrest. A charge of assault with a weapon was withdrawn, but she has also been given a 10-year firearm prohibition.
No disposition has been made in the charges against her accomplice, who has yet to face trial.
