The Tobacco Act and Alberta's Tobacco Reduction Act are different pieces of legislation. The larger issue of teen smoking is a National epidemic, but thanks for being rude anyway. Interesting article, btw, I wonder if any fines will actually be levied under this new law.

If you don't bother to and someone calls you on it, then take it like an adult.
and yes, Alberta Health will be levying fines on those who don't follow the new law.

I wasn't rude to anyone. I said the Tobacco Act was Federal Law, you said it wasn't. I know I'm a newbie, but it's not my fault if you don't know that the Tobacco Act and the Tobacco Reduction Act aren't the same thing. YOU'RE the one that needs to read more carefully.

Oh, I don't know, maybe because Federal laws governing the sale of tobacco apply in all provinces and the problems of tobacco regulation and youth tobacco use are nation-wide issues.

Are you being deliberately thick headed? The whole point of this thread was about pharmacies in Alberta not being able to sell cigarettes, which comes into effect January 1st. You would know that had you even bothered to click on any one of the links I provided. But you didn't bother now did you...

The only 'drug stores' that sell smokes in BC are London Drugs and Superstores with a Pharmacy AFAIK. Most of the chains stopped long ago without any law forcing them.

I still don't see the big deal. Drinkers always had to make two stops (for groceries and then booze)...so what if smokers have to also.

I'm neither an Albertan nor a smoker... that being said I'm definitely on side with passing legislation that makes it harder to promote smoking in any province.
I'm also not in favour of letting the government decide what I or any other Canadian can and can't do as was discussed earlier in this post. This seems like reasonable legislation.

Why not let people sell them as they please. If you do not like it then do not go to that store. That store will go out of business. Keep the government out of it.
