The more time I spend in my new home town in my new home province, I was born here in Alberta mind you, I find some pretty cool events. I was taking a back route from Grande Prairie out to Clairmont when I saw this rather unique sight for this day and age.

As it turns out, they were plowing right next to this pretty little farm...

They stopped when they saw I was taking pictures and I had a nice chat with them. It turns out they are training this team for the 39th annual Alberta Plowing match in Wahnam that takes place from June 11 through the 14th. ( http://www.wanham.org/ ) They are also hosting the Canadian Plow Match later this summer. Just thought I would share this unique little event with everyone.

I worked in a financial institution a did farm loans for a few years.
This reminds me of festivals they would have in small farming communities.

Trying to catch greased pigs was one of the competitions.

One that the farmers got me to try (besides chasing the pig) was to back up a tractor with a baler and a 20 foot long trailer. Wasn't long before I'd made an accordeon out of everything.

You've been away to long Q, thats a seed drill. It's something I've never seen before, impressive.

Kind of amazing when you think of how it's done now a days with air seeders and GPS.

Buy yourself a couple of horses, a chuckwagon and I can set you up with a group from Peace River that do a couple of tours during the summer.

They used to have ' a Beaver Show' at the hotel several years ago. Don't know if still do or not. You'll have to do some 'research' and get back to us with your findings 'Q' !

*Edit* They also used to have a real wild life museum set up there as well. That's what I went to see anyways!

Probably not. Work keeps getting in the way.

I've been several times and knew quite a few folks in the circuit, having grown up here though. Definitely have to drag Q-Bert out there next year. (Still easing him into AB living  )
