Turns out that N.S is having some serious accidents in cross walks as of late.....last week a person was killed in one out on pleasent st in Dartmouth.
On Friday afternoon another person was hit in a cross walk in lower Sackville on Gelndale drive.....and it was my nephew....he is all right but has a fair amount of road rash and a broken bone in his orbital scocket.
He was hit by a 16 year old male driver.....it would have been alot worse if he had not jumped at the last second..

Somehow it's happening here also more often. Last week an older lady had been killed on a cross walk.

I tell my kids never to assume a driver sees them before they cross the road. There's just too much to look for, and one momentof inattention can make the difference between getting to 7/11 and getting a ride in an ambulance.... or worse.


Your nephew was lucky... and I hope the 16 year old learned from this.

I guess the fellow that hit him was freaking out pretty good..he was crying like a school girl and all he kept saying was im sorry im sorry over and over again.....Wullu will even know which crosswalk it was....it was the one at the bottom of first lake drive..just down for the sports center.

We've had three fatalities this week as a result of drivers not stopping at cross walks. The local TV station video taped a group of students who were going to place flowers at a memorial for the young gal that died and cars were wizzing by not stopping including a "Cop Car". I cross at three cross walks daily walking his nibs and it's not only the cars that don't stop but the ones who do take the time but the guy behind him isn't paying attention and rear ends the one that stopped. I've witnessed two accidents such as this.

Glad your nephew is okay Fat, he's one of the lucky ones.

Thanks all I was talking to him on the phone jusat a bit ago...he is sore but he knows who he is so i guess thats all that matters....This is the type of kid he is ....he says to me that he feels bad for the fellow that hit him.

The one at Pinehill? The one at the high school? They both suck as places for crosswalks. Especially the one at the high school. Not sure who thought a crosswalk at a highschool just over a blind crest on a 60kmh road (it was 70 kmh a few years back) was a good idea. The only decent ones on the whole road are at the traffic lights.

As a side note to this, with all the accidents we have been having lately you start to notice the cross walks more. I was coming up to one today and there was a young girl there (16 or 17 I guess) not looking either way, just staring straight ahead. I stopped and she crossed. For all the interest she was showing she might as well have been waiting for the leaves to start growing. Combine that with folks that think driving is easy and you have a dangerous combo.

I am, frankly, surprised we don't have more of them in Sackville. When they designed this place they forgot to include sidewalks on the streets except the collector roads. Within a ten minute walk of my place are two elementary schools, one junior high, one high school, two areanas and a sportsplex. All those kids have to walk on the roads to get home. It is like playing dodge ball between 3 and 4 in the afternoon.

Anywho rant off. Glad your nephew is gonna be ok fat!

It's the same in Cowville Wullu, to get to the elementary school the little ones have to walk up my street and there isn't a side walk. The traffic is horrific and the kids walk in the drainage ditches to stay off the road. I guess city planners don't want to spend the money to keep the little ones off the busy roads that leads to their schools.

Dang FB and here I was feeling down about my fiance having to leave. I'm very very glad your nephew is going to be ok. Sounds like he has an angle looking out for him. I"m also glad that this was an accident and not a drunk driveing deal, I'm assumeing its not do to no mention of the 16 yr old kid being drunk.

Heck tell your nephew that seeing as how he took on a car and survived he probely should try out for the football team. The hits are not a brutal as they look.

Football ? oh yes they are . I've been hit by both car and defenceman , less damage from the defencman and you don't fly as far as when hit by a car but they're both pretty brutal . Glad I survived both and completely healed . In two weeks (April 15 th ) I will have gone 20 years defenceman and car free .
