Shame,shame...the big speech on Halifax having the biggest ship thing and retired army folks, etc..etc...and no ribbon on your car....excuse accepted (good excuse I have too say, naval combats) but I am sending you a DEFIS de Quebec....a challenge. When the Vandoos get going get a ribbon for them...Reverse it....Not many ribbons in Quebec for the PPCLI overthere now so when they go let's get as many CANADIANS as possible (that do not have any) to get some....

PS Don't be distrubed by my ribbon thing, its not an addiction...

Well, I'm back again for the build this week... halfway through the third week, and we're already putting siding on!!

Here's a photo from last week that I swiped from the website. I'll have to poke some people and get more, better quality photos!

Very nice job BN. I was hoping to help out with the build project, and I think I'll try to as soon as I get back to halifax.

Thanks, we're very happy with our progress! I'm actually a crew leader now, so I get to do a little less hammering and a lot more instructing

It'll be going into September for sure, but it's going to be more of the drywall/painting/flooring/trim type stuff by that time. I missed most of that part last year, because I thought lots of people would be fit to do that sort of thing, who wouldn't want to drive nails all day.

In fact, most people dislike painting as much as I do, plus summer vacations are all over, so there's quite a decline in volunteers near the end. I actually took a few days off school last year to help them meet the deadline... I was painting baseboard in the wee hours of the morning before the official turnover/unveiling, or whatever they call it.

So yeah, come on out - it's not hard (people don't expect you to have any experience, though it helps), it's really fun, and there's steadfast commitments required (they like to know in advance when you're coming, though, to keep things organized).

I'll be out as soon as I get back, I'm with you on hating the painting bit though, hopefully painting won't be the only thing thats left (not that it really matters, just personal preference). As far as experience, I'm pretty.

Whats the tool situation, however? Do they have enough on hand for volunteers who might not have anything to bring?

Is that pretty experienced, or pretty looking?

We've got a whole trailer full of tools, but bringing your own helps, especially if it's a busy day - if you have a tool belt, hammer, tape (normal stuff you'd expect to need), it can't hurt to bring them along (I bring all my own tools), but you're certainly not required to bring any with you.

You'll also need steel toes, if you have them - they have a couple dozen pairs, too, but I have no idea what sizes they have, or what shape they're in.

The next few weeks are going to be (in this approximate order): drywall, decks, landscaping, painting, flooring, trim, cabinets, and final touchups - so there's lots of things to work on. You can't really go by their schedule anymore, since we're so far ahead of it, so your best bet is to find out in advance what's going on.

Anyway, I'm headed back tomorrow morning bright and early, so I need to get some sleep!
