I just got word that the Premier of BC will be at this event.
Got a bike and want to tell you're MLA something about it?

$1:
The MLA Ride is a motorcycle ride to the Legislature Buildings in Victoria where riders arrive at noon to take the MLA's and their staff for a ride on their lunch hour, so that they can experience the thrill of motorcycling firsthand. This ride enables our members to discuss issues concerning motorcycling in B.C. with their MLA and is also the big kick off to help promote May as Motorcycle Awareness Month.

17th Annual MLA Ride
Date: Thursday, May 4, 2006
Assembly Points
Vancouver: Riders meet at Tsawwassen Ferry terminal to take 9am sailing
Victoria: Riders meet at Mayfair Mall, Blanshard St, Victoria, 11am
For info please call (604) 580-0111 or 1-877-580-0111

As usual we were most popular with the toruists and school kids but many of the politicos and their staff came out to see what the noise was all about.

File comment: Here's Motor Patrol Officer Doug, who leads the toy ride every year.
We were suposed to have a police escort when we take the politicos on a ride around Victoria, but they showed up way too late.

There's an example of their nice new Honda St1300's.
Fast enough that you'd think they would not be late, but I guess there's never one around when you need one. :D

File comment: Right in fromt is the hardest working man in motorcycling, showing off the BCCOM logo (British Columbia Coolition of Motorcyclists). The fine folks who do this every year.

No worst example of why this sort of thing is nessesary was a few days ago when a driver, playing with her cell phone looked away long enough to drift onto the side where she struck and killed a cyclist. Motor or not, it simply takes a second to cause an accident. 75% of the accidents between cars and motorcycles are the fault of the driver.
The old saying is that the rider may have the right of way, but it's the right of way to the hospital.

Motorcycles are hard too see in traffic because often, those singal lights get lost in traffic and when there is no reference, it is difficult for drivers to gauge the speed a bike is closing. Drivers look for cars and bikes are a small thing that gets missed. I'd urge all drivers to look twice because you may lose a fender but we loose much more.

Did it make ya mad? Did it make ya mean dog mad? did it make ya fighting, mean dog mad? ...
(anyone who remembers SCTV "The grapes of mud" should recognise that)

Sorry, small hemlet = mind wanders
