EA is the worst company?

I have a long list of problems with many other companies that I consider more important then their inability to make user-friendly games...

People couldn't get SimCity to run, at all, for up to a week after launch.

They were selling a product that straight up did not work. Not just buggy, not just "user unfriendly", but something that did not work.

That's pretty bad. Never had a company do that to me before, with any type of product.

Never? Fuck, I worked as a peon for a company that regularly sold things that didn't work, and then would refuse to take them back. Not games, mind you, but people certainly would like their computer or toaster oven or vacuum to work. Even more though, they'd like to get their money back. Neither would happen.

The company paid for it in customer reviews and the occasional hysterical assault on cashiers.

A distinction has to be made between SimCity and say a graphics card for your PC for example.

There will always be a small number of faulty video cards come off the production line, its expected, and the companies have a process in place to replace those cards which make their way to consumers.

SimCity was straight up broken across the board. This wasn't a defect in a handful of disks, but serious problems with EA's servers and the program itself.

It's as if they never Alpha or Beta tested the program. Pure 100% laziness.

EA is a terrible software publisher.

I do agree that they suck. They absolutely fucked Command and Conquer 4.

I'm just saying though, that if there is seriously a study out there that says they are the absolute worst company in America, it must have been a study of only video game producers.

http://www.businessinsider.com/ea-voted ... ica-2013-4

They were voted worst company in America in an online vote. In the end it came down to them and Bank of America.

People hate paying for a product that doesn't work, or one they bought due to deceptive advertising.

Both things I agree with, and both things I think almost everyone with an ad on television or a bank on the stock market is far more guilty of and overall more damaging to their society.

An online poll makes it make sense though.

Most people probably don't vote with an eye on "which company is most damaging to society", but rather "which company has caused me, personally, the most grief".

Hmm...

I'd have to say Bell, Shaw, Telus, Rogers, Apple, Microsoft, eMachines, virtually every retail outlet you can think of, and D-Link. Actually, maybe put D-Link first; they're pissing me off this very second.

Telecommunications companies would probably rank at the bottom of most customer satisfaction polls in Canada.

What do you have against D-Link? I use their products almost exclusively. Rock solid.

Yep. Cheap and common, it's what we use.

Ever since we stopped using dial-up, we've had a D-Link. And ever since that, we've had D-Links that loves to fail.

I'd like to hit the little stupid Chinese box with a solid rock.

It's a constant fight between the telecoms, the router, and the d-link for how the internet should be inoperable today.

Thanks CK. Took a boo at 'em and it looks like they provide service to my area [B-o]

You're welcome. I hawk that company like no tomorrow, they should hire me

Another Simcity fan crying at the destruction of a great franchise, I see?

Yeah, it was quite possibly the worst game purchase I ever made. I haven't touched it in a month, and it sucks. There's so much potential in the game, all ruined by EA's incompetence. Sword of the Stars II was another horrible release, but at least I got that on sale, and it was just a buggy mess, not the complete clusterfuck Simcity was.

I use one of these.

Has never needed a reset, ever. They only time it has ever been powered off is when the wife decides she needs the space it occupies for something else and I have to rewire half the house... but I digress.

All of my connectivity issues are a result of Shaw (not my networking equipment), and those are few and far between enough to not bother me.

I never bought it (read the bad reviews and couldn't pull the trigger), and won't until EA fixes it. Including nixing the requirement for constant connection to the 'net.

From the looks of things they may never.

EA's response to SimCity debacle

Lucky... daily resetting of the internet has been an ordeal we've dealt with since at least 2003, across several telecoms and several routers... The only constant has been a D-Link in some incarnation.

Looking at the D-Link website, I notice they don't even carry models that look like the one we have anymore. Maybe it's time to upgrade, but fuck $110!
