The positive thing about shutting down the cruise industry is that for a year now there's been tens of thousands of people who haven't gotten Norwalk, e-coli, and dozens of other opportunistic infections/bacteria that spread like wildfire due to the absolutely abysmal sanitary conditions that exist on those ships, simply because that hideous industry is in stasis. At some stage the old social & medical studies that convincingly showed packing people into enclosed spaces like canned sardines results in nothing but disease spread and eruptions of anti-social behaviour really need to be unearthed and appreciated again.
I went on a cruise in 2011 and though I thought I would hate it, but it was actually a lot of fun and good value for the money - it was less than $100/day for food, hotel, entertainment, etc.
I could see going again if the pandemic ever ends, but at the rate of vaccination and how many anti-maskers/anti-vaxxers there are out there, I'm growing more and more skeptical of that happening anytime soon.
However, if the cruise industry never starts up again, I'm sure I can find something else fun to do.
