How do you cross the border "on foot"?

One time when I was in southern Arizona, I too crossed the border on foot. This was the Nogales border which led me into Mexico (I had to purchase some medication which was cheaper in Mexico). I was amazed in that there were no customs officers on the Mexican side when I crossed. Upon return into the U.S., I recall the foot traffic line-up was longer than the vehicle line-up. Lots of folks cross the border on foot when entering the U.S. from Mexico.

I guess for bordertowns between Canada and the U.S., you would also have folks crossing on foot.

I live in a border town. Not here. People on bicycles, yes. But not on foot.

Many Mexican citizens living in border cities have a border-crossing card which allows them to cross over into adjacent areas on the US side with little hassle.

On all roads 25 or so miles past the border, there are immigration facilities beyond which the border-crossing cards are not valid.

It is the same for US and Canadian citizens crossing into Mexican border areas. You do not need a visa for border areas. Beyond those areas, you will pass Mexican immigration stops where you need a visa/tourist card.
