The rumor has been making the rounds. I guess it would make up for the partisan appointments to the Senate. :?

$1:
Doer to be next ambassador to the United States

CJOB News has learned that outgoing Premier Gary Doer will become the next Canadian ambassador to the United States.

Doer is set to meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Ottawa this morning.

Doer is expected to take the position in Washington later this fall.

Michael Wilson has been the ambassador since 2006.

Doer announced yesterday that he'll step down as Premier of Manitoba in the near future.

Maybe he can improve trade and relations like he did with health care in Manitoba. The key point to the NDP taking government 10 years back. Oh wait, nothing changed with Manitoba Health Care in the last 10 years..........

So did Jacks surprise meeting with Harper the other day have something to do with this? I wasn't really paying to much attention to it.

So this means the dippers keep Taliban Jack for the next few years,
and if Gary does come back, he'll be immediately vilified for being
an Americaphile....

Nope, there's a difference between a gov't appointment and living there of your own accord and calling it YOUR country. However, if Doer comes back referring to the US as his country and Americans are his people, well....

Doer is not a hard core socialist in the least. He and his replacement Selinger are both fiscally conservative. He ran for the NDP because frankly, to run as a Liberal in the West means you won't get elected to power. Unlike their federal counterparts the provincial NDP Parties know they can get elected to run governments and act prudently.
