Canada, living next to the U.S. cares a little to much what
our neighbour thinks. I'm sure Spain doesn't sit
around caring what France thinks of them.
So why does Canada care?
Probably because America
has a way of overlooking what we do for them.
Landing planes for them after the terrorist attacks,
Bush thanked every nation for helping except us.
But who cares. Canada is a great country.
We dont need the US to recognize that.
There's to much discussion about Canada/US relations.
I'm sure Americans aren't discussing the
soft wood lumber dispute, or how they could mend relations with us. Personally I dont care.
There is more interesting things to talk about.
Plus, I dont want Americans to know how great it is here because then they might all want to move up here. Thats just what we need.

Gonzo why you hate America? Its envy..........I dont think most Americans want to move to Canada..........Most of your people always move to Florida.......So your point is kind of pointless

It's obvious you cared enough to mention it, Gonzo.

I've seen no indications that Gonzo hates the US, AP.

He didn't actually mention it, Ugly Yank. He wondered why others do.

The reason it keeps coming up, Gonzo, is that so much of what the does impacts Canada and the rest of the world...as often as not in a negative way. That's become much more severe since George II was appointed president.

Predatory trade practices, wars to gain control of resources, the imposition of economic plans on poorer nations that cannot afford them, the refusal to be held accountable for their actions in the international community, and the refusal to sign common treaties even while backing out of or refusing to honour existing treaties are all imperialistic actions.

Historically neighbours of imperialistic nations have been very wary of them.

I agree that America as a country is discussed because of it's impact on the world. But what I'm saying is Canada cares too much about how Americans see us. We want them to know a little too much that Canada isn't covered in snow all year round. Canadian insecurities about it's image and how the world perceives us. We should just do our own thing and not care what other nations think.
I dont hate Americans by the way. Americans are like anyone else. They're just people. It's the government that I dont like for reasons I've already said.

Who cares what Europe thinks?
Who cares what the UN thinks?
Who cares what the International Community thinks?
and so on and so forth.

It isn't if they know when the snow melts that bothers me, Gonzo. That they don't care that we are a sovereign country every bit as modern as they are does. The arrogance inherent in that is a dangerous thing.

The point at which people begin to "care"is when they want American money, American food goods, American boys/girls to defend their country, American political assistance, or an American market.

Mario,

Good observation. I didn't say you "asked" for any of that.

You may want to review Canadian history however, when you say "ever."

The main gist of the thread, unless I am horribly mistaken, had to do with, "caring."

My mistake; aside the American Market.... I don't believe we would care. The only reason we could care about the US market, is because our exports are mostly to the US.

It's getting more and more questionable if that should be where our exports go though. By accepting the US as our main market, we have become less self-sufficent and far too dependent on a single market,

Rev Blair,

I agree Canada ought to diversify it's exports. I also believe the US should not put up with trade imbalances. For every $ in goods sold to another country, we will buy a $ in return.
