Well the list should be categorised... greatest inventor, greatest politician ( which of course would be Trudeau :) greatest humanitarian and so on.. lots of names come to mind.. and of course it would depend on which generation you ask right?

The greatest politicians are the ones that never get elected.
Trou d'eau certainly doesn't get my vote.

We are such a sad country if our top greatest Canadians are mostly celebs. I also don't see why Avril Lavigne and other Canadian celebs top war heros who risk there lives to protect peace and stop genocide in other countries, Canadian astronaughts and the bizzilion actually worthy of the list.

Umm.. did you look at the list? plenty of non celebs, there are no celebs in the top 10. http://www.cbc.ca/greatest/top_ten/ well maybe Don Cherry could be considered one.

But Tommy Douglas, The Greatest of Them All

I did look at the list, yes there was a lot of non-celebs in it however there was also a lot of celebs in the top of the list. 1st page was like 4 celebs in it. Second page has a lot more worthy Canadians than famous ones. I even believe if I remember correctly that a celebrity beat General Dallier who prevented Genocide in Africa or atleast risked his life and the life of his men to attempt to do so.

Than there is Sir Issac Brack who changed Canadian History and yet Celion Dion is a more greater Canadian?

The whole thing was a joke. That radio DJ from Winnipeg proved that. How could Tommy Douglas be great that Banting, for example?

Sir John A had a vision that no leader or writer has come close to.

The current American style conservative movement in the PMO has no connection to Sir John A, at all.

George Grant, Stephen Leacock and Sir John A would piss on the lot of today's neocon trolls.

Big Bear or Mistahi-maskwa, he was a Cree chief. One of the only Natives that stood up to the settlers and refused to trade his land for the obscenely petty offers that were made by them.

If you are passing through N.W Saskatchewan, stop at Steele Narrows P.P.
http://www.tpcs.gov.sk.ca/SteeleNarrowsBrochure

Here was the last fight of the Riel Rebellion. Later, Big Bear surrendered.

I have stood on the top of the hill with members of the River Cree and had them tell stories of their ancestors who fought.

Sam Steele was also a great Canadian who later made a big difference for Canada in the Yukon.
