Explorer Samuel de Champlain who would found Quebec, Montreal and Trois Riviere was born 3 July 1567. He was made Leitenant Governor of New France which consisted of Acadia, Quebec and Louisianan (modern day Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Bruswick, Manitoba, Saskatchewa, Alberta). As such he is considered by many to be Canada's first Governor General.

I belive Champlains birthday should be made a statuetory holiday like Victoria Day, either Champlain Day or Governor General's Day.

We need one in February. Often its the bleakest and coldest month and we need something to break it up. I propose a national "hockey day". Gives us an excuse to drink (as if we needed one) and celebrates a shared cultural symbol.

I'd rather have John A Macdonald day as a day for drinking at the same time celebrating our first prime minister. [B-o] Bottoms up Sir John A. *glub, glub, glub*

P.S - Louisiana territories didn't include Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Bruswick, Manitoba, Saskatchewa, Alberta.

parts of Manitoba, Saskatchewa, and Alberta were included

Quebec was it's own territory, and Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were part of Acadia

Knoss Knoss:

Quebec was it's own territory, and Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were part of Acadia

The very southern bottom (5km) of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta before the 49th parallel if you want to get into territorial semantics. You made it sound like all of Canada was a part of Luisiana, just trying to clarify that for others.
