A defining moment is an event that shapes who we (Canadians) are, how we feel about Canada. In your opinion, what do you think are some of Canada's Definning Moments in Canadian History and why?

This is such a difficult question to provide only one answer:

- Vimy Ridge
- The discovery of Insulin
- Captain Nichola Goddard
- The War Measures Act
- Tery Fox

... to name but a few.

Well, I was thinking about the "Persons Case" and the Suez Crisis when Lester Pearson came up with a solution to avoid another world war.

I know that what I am about to suggest is not exactly a defining moment in Canadian history, but is mixed with Korean History.......

Battle of Kap-Yong.

A lost, forgotten battle, where the South Korean and American forces retreated, leaving only the Canadians and the Australians to defend the hill. If the allies lost this battle, it would've meant the routing of allied forces, and would have allowed the North Koreans and Chinese to march into Seoul, ergo letting communism win......

Were it not for the valiant and constant efforts of the Canadians and Australians, the hill would have been taken, and the North koreans would have marched into Seoul.

It was a very great honour witnessing the actual battle sight and attending the ceremonies of the Battle of Kap-Yong, held each year in April. I was posted with the Canadian Embassy, in Seoul Korea as the Assistant Defence Attache! Many Canadian Veterans revisit from the KVA that fought in this battle with the PPCLI, also attend each year with their families and friends.

I'm going to have to put it like this:
1.Naming of the land by Cartier from Kanata (village) to Canada.
2.Battle of the Plains of Abraham
3.The War of 1812.
4.The completion of the railroad,
5.The hanging of Riel,
6.Vimy
7.Statue de Westminister
8.Bilingualisme,
9.Charter of Rights
10.The ongoing struggle to keep Quebec a part of the Nation.

These are mine, I can't pick a single most important. The multicultural ones are my favorite.

There are many defining moments including those who moved here , leaving everything behind to cultivate the land and trade with the natives in which the Hudons Bay Co. was greatly responsible for . Trading , Trapping , and Mining grew , some women would have all their teeth pulled before they came because there wasn't much for dentistry back then . My history of Canada is far from the best but I thought hard about it and I can't seem to find anything close in comparison to out west the last spike or the completion of the railroad so I would say CP .
