We want nothing to do with New Orleans. We celebrate keeping you guys out of our country, is all. And look at now much nicer we turned out than you did.

Yup, they tried to conquer Canada and we opened up a can of whup-ass on them. And the fact that the Yanks won't admit it makes it all the sweeter.

You should just quit looking for a reason to annoy Canadians. At the end of the day you are stuck in the UK and we 'aint. Sucks to be you. This reminds me of that GB plonker who told us that the Queen was the head of the CF. I wonder what ever happened to him?

Y'all burned the White House in 1812. Now we've got the Stanley Cup. I'd say we're even. ![Drink up [B-o]](./images/smilies/drinkup.gif)

Here's a post I made reposting a reply I made on this very thread in the Year of our Lord, two-thousand and five. Quote: The Encyclopaedia Brittanica lists the following units as those who fought at the 1814 ‘Battle of Bladensburg’, then went on to burn the Whitehouse and other US government buildings in retaliation for the burning of various buildings in York (now Toronto) in 1813.
Under Major General Robert Ross, British Army
4th Regiment of Foot (King’s Own) 21st Regiment of Foot ( Royal North British Fusiliers) 44th Regiment of Foot (East Essex) 85th Regiment of Foot (Bucks Volunteers) Elements of the Royal Marines Gun crews from the Royal Navy
All these were British units that had been landed amphibiously in Maryland directly from bases in the UK. There were no Canadian units involved in either the “Battle of Bladensburg" or in the occupation of Washington and the subsequent burning of the Whitehouse..

At the Kettle Point Indian reserve at Ipperwash, ON, someone spray painted "Canada, where were you in 1812?" on one of the barracks. The answer is "Nowhere"...Canada didn't exist for another 55 years.

...and then God sent a hurricane against the forces of the British Empire. Quote: On August 25, the British approached the heart of Washington, march down Constitution Avenue bearing a flag of truce and demand a surrender. Suddenly from a house window the flag of truce is fired upon. The British troops rushed into the house where the shots had been fired from, and put all who were found in the house to the sword and then reduced the house to ashes. They went onto burn and destroy every building connected to the government. This was a major embarrassment to our nation, which resulted disastrously to the Americans as important historical landmarks and official government documents were destroyed. The British stayed in Washington for two nights as the city laid in agony. The weather had turned for the worst, as a hurricane made landfall. This forced the British to abandon Washington the next night. http://www.emmitsburg.net/archive_list/articles/history/rev_war/1814.htm

I was going for an overly-formal Old World style. I should have thrown "smite" in there somewhere.

As to your question, I guess one could say continued independence could be considered a victory, as I'm sure some in Britain at the time would have liked to have seen the colonial system restored.
