But is was a simple idea: when somebody needs medical attention give it to 'em. As far as being rude, when nobody gives you a chance to speak you need to take it from them just os they listen.

beyond that i don't know too much about Tommy, gonna watch the other have of the movie tonight though

I think the thing is he was absolutely certain of his beliefs and convictions and was contemptuous of those who disagreed. It's not an uncommon trait among politicians.

Further I think he would be rolling in his grave if he seen the shambles our "health care" system is in.

Oh? It doesn't look like we are doing that bad, actually. It does look like we could be doing better.

I think there is a difference between 'shambles' and 'could use a tune-up'.

Robair the money wasted within healthcare is absolutely retarded! Not to mention that here in wonderful Ontario I pay for "healthcare" thanks to the McGuinty government! For the extra money I pay into this system I still cannot get a family doctor here! Universal healthcare, my ass, family must use a clinic for any medical appointments, in which they rarely see the same doctor twice! So yes, I guess the system is doing fine!

Whats with this new 'Primary Healthcare' plan? It sounds like if there is a primary healthcare then there is going to be a secondary healthcare too.

'Primary Healthcare'

Psychobabble for the great unwashed - it's always been there - just like our present two-tier system . . . .

As for Tommy Douglas - why a meaner, curr-like critter you couldn't find - when he wasn't bouncing budding baby boy flatearthers on one of his many knees. . . .

Try looking for a doctor. I've lived in 5 different cities in the last 10 years and never had any problem getting medical attention in both a prompt and competent manner. Yes there have been times where I waited a while to get in to see someone but I did get in and received everything I needed.

When people like you bitch and complain about our healthcare system and say its in shambles it maligns all of us working in the system. You haven't got any constructive advice and 99% of the people bitching about Canadian healthcare have absolutely no idea how its run or how it could be rung. All they do is complain about it without realizing that it isn't just a matter of waving a magic wand to fix all the problems.

Suggest something. Lets hear your advice on exactly what we need to do to achieve whatever healthcare level you seem to think we can.

You want a more powerful military? Fine. No-wait healthcare with a 1:10 doctor patient ratio? All good. First rate roads throughout Canada? Excellent. Computers for every student and a 1:10 teacher student ratio? Brilliant. Taxes so low the Americans look at us with envy? No argument here.

So how are we going to achieve all this?

You want a family doctor here you go on a waiting list. Took me a year and then he moved so on the list again.

I'm sure there is lots of fat that can be trimmed from the system.
Big time waste and bureaucracy is everywhere.
Start with charging $10.00/ clinic visit,Maybe then folks with a cold will stay in bed instead of adding to the lineup then.

Employers that demand a doctors note-Charge them $50.00/note.Let them do their own documentation for their records. More room for those that actually need it.

You said you lived way in the boonies (without good access to cable) right? I think its a little expected for people living in fairly isolated areas to have less access then most. It isn't easy convincing doctors to practice in areas like that when they are in demand everywhere.

You would be surprised how little fat can actually be trimmed in hospitals.

Perhaps but then you hit the most vulnerable group of people where it hurts the most, their wallets. Families struggling to get buy will not take little johnny to the doctor because that 10 dollars went to buying him new socks. Its this very reason we developed a system where people don't have to worry about shelling out money just to see a doctor.

I agree there. While I understand the reason employers demand this all it really does is force people to fake symptoms and go to the doctor when they don't need to just because they didn't feel like working that day.

A good way to clear up some traffic would be to make more drugs over the counter and stop forcing so many people using up valuable doctors time just to get a renewal.

I seem to recall you saying you lived in the boonies. My bad if I'm wrong. It certainly wasn't a blanket statement about alberta.

He probably should. What mother would do that though?
