That's really interesting Bossdog. What application did you send in?

For my husband to come back with me to Canada, I have to sponsor him. Is that the same for you?

Yes, I had to sponsor my wife. The applications I had to fill out (I think about 3) were massive and complicated. My wife had to fill out even more paper work than I did. I would recommend starting the process 2 years before youplan to return to Canada. Expect to pay about $1500 - $2000 if you plan to do it yourslef.

Thanks =)

Ontario. I made some deep friendships working with some Canadians who were working in Florida doing Hurricane Katrina auto claims. And one in particular that deffinitly made the decision for me. She lives in the city of Barrie, and as soon as I get some tenure at my current job (or can get an offer from some place there) I will transfer and do all the paperwork. Its all sitting in a file on my desk waiting to be mailed off.

Yeah Immigration can be a pain. But as has been said before. "Anything worth doing, usually isnt easy." I know the process of immigrating to Canada is a bit expensive (about $1500 for the paperwork) but its all going to be worth it.

That was our plan originally. To have my wife come to Canada. We spent a boat load of money on fees. Waited an unacceptable amount of time (18 months) with still progress. Paid for all her medicals and tests. Still nothing. I applied for a refund and moved to the US instead. I got my refund in 3 weeks.

Ack!! 8O

Thats my worst fear is that something along those lines will happen. thats why Im also not sure if I need to apply for a work visa then work on permanent residence or what.

I have experience with the immigration system of both the US and Canada. I married an American and I was sponsored to move to the US by my husband. We began the process of my moving to the US in 1999. I did move in 2000 but I didn't actually get my green card until 2005. Because my application took such a long time ( I think something happened to it after 9/11 - I live in NY) I had to have 3 medical exams (they expire after a year) and each cost several hundred dollars. AND I had to go to the immigration offices several times to have my work authorization renewed at least 4 times. Each time you have a "re-do" there is a form and a fee involved.

And now my husband and I are going back to Canada. In 2 weeks in fact.
We started gathering all the information and filling out the forms for me to sponsor him to become a resident about this time last year. We mailed in the forms for sponsorship and immigration in September. I was approved as a sponsor by December. My husband was approved to come to Canada by the end of January of 2006. By the end of March we had the date we had to cross the border.

Hey thanks!

Now I have to re-train myself to say "zed" instead of "zee". Can't wait! :D
