Good plan. Canada starts a war with the USA so it can invade and annex Hawai'i.

And while the CF is busy sipping iced Kahlua in Waikiki the Marines will be admiring the wainscoting at 24 Sussex Drive.

I don't care. I will be on Hawaii, making myself and EB rulers, and dominate the island as we please! MUHAHAHAHAH

I don't think running a grow op in the basement qualifies as gainful employment.

I should qualify that. Here in Regina we are full. Try Winnipeg...

I like Winnipeg a lot. I too plan on taking the long road of Immigration some day once I get my degree established. Winnipeg is actually my second choice. It's close enough to my current home, and as far as people, climate, and scenery go...it's pretty much the same as where I live now.

The reason Canada and The United States are such great countries, melting pots of the worlds cultures are because of immigration.

What ever happen to:

"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Sure we need to limit Muslim migration as Australia has done.

Well we're not a melting pot.

What ever happened to "give me your tired...?" It was written in 1883, when the population of US was just over 50 million, Canada was maybe 4 million, and world was maybe 1.6 billion. That's what happened. Asians keep breeding like flies and then want to come here so we become another Asia. I'm not picking on them alone, but that's where the current flood is coming from, while we have neither in infrastructure or jobs for them.

Why do you think people should grow dope in their basements? I'm not saying you shouldn't, it just seems like a strange thread to start the discussion in.

Same can be said for Europeans circa 1883.

It’s an inequitable comparison.

Western Europeans coming to a Western European colony or a country started by Western Europeans on values that were familiar to most of the immigrants. Values that went back to the Magna Carta.

That was the history of immigration to Canada for 200 years or so.

For better or worse, that isn't the case with a great majority of immigrants we now accept.

To compound the cultural acceptance issue, we also are too PC to require any real loyalty from new immigrants. The citizenship test and process are a joke, I know, I’ve done it.
Anybody who hangs around in Canada for 3 years gets a passport.

You have only to look at the plastic Canadians in Lebanon and those in Pakistan et al that originally came here as ‘refugees’ but now visit their former homelands for months at a time and even have permanent residences and businesses there. They must be really scared after fleeing Lebanon/Pakistan etc now that they go back every summer for a few months.

Aside from the cultural differences that we actually encourage new settlers to continue with, there are impacts to the quality of life that unfettered immigration has brought to Canada.

We tolerate immigrants that commit serious crimes and allow them to stay in Canada. We have enough Canadians (that are born here) committing crime, we don't need to import criminals from other countries but we keep on doing it.
