Japan now has more hulls in the Pacific Ocean than the USA, Canada, Australia, and China combined. They also have light aircraft carriers again and Etajima is now proposing that Japan should get back into the fleet carrier business by 2020.
Given US cuts to the Navy that are in motion that will reduce the USA to two or three active carrier groups at any one time by the mid 2020's I'm thinking it's a good thing that a friendly democracy like Japan should be able to cheque the Chinese on that side of the pond.
I wouldn't trust the Japanese to check anything.
