The idiotic Chinese thought they could shine one over on the world by claiming that a successful missile exercise of theirs had taken place and, to prove it, they had film footage.

...of the final dogfight scene in the movie Top Gun.

Chatter is that the exercise was of a very expensive air-to-air platform that's been the source of criticism lately. Pretending that it was a success was supposed to save face for the pathetic old men in Beijing. Now it's looking like they've got egg foo yung on their faces instead.

Seems one of the difficulties the Chinese have is that while they're stealing a lot of technology some of it is so far over their heads they have no idea what to do with it. Thus they have to resort to faking results since they're unable to produce any actual results.

In other news the PLAF has also announced they've built a new spacecraft with special modifications and, reportedly, it’s the ship that made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs. They're promising some awesome film of the test flights tomorrow.

Well don't you remember their historic spaceflight...you know the one where the government was reporting talking to them in orbit, while they were still sitting on the launchpad. They figure if it's 'clever' enough to fool their own backward masses, that the rest of the world will believe their BS too.

I know that Franklin Roosevelt was the worst Communist since Hitler and all (as Beck, Palin, and Bachmann keep telling me) but the "nothing to fear but fear itself" stuff might be useful to remember whenever anyone brings up any of that nonsense about China taking over the entire world. It's just as likely that a hundred years from now these guys will still be folding shirts at the dry cleaners or building crappy condos in Vancouver that fall apart in the rain as opposed to being our new overlords.
