I've been watching Generals at War and it is pretty good. Weighted fairly heavy toward British and US battles but good none the less.
20th Century Battlefields is good too and use computer generated models and current location shots to demonstrate the flow of battle.

I think a series that's even better than those two is also on the Military Channel but was made in the UK in the mid 90's. It's called Battlefield: World War Two and is very detailed.......even mentions Canadians. IMHO.......it's the best series documentary. Back on the old HT message board I asked them to look into showing it on HT. Apparently the real good programs are too expensive to show and all they could afford was JAG.

I dumped Shaw and got Star Choice. And too be honest History Television is a joke these days. They're down to maybe one hour of historical programming a day if they're lucky. I'm even thinking of dumping them off my bundle.........very sad! The US Military Channel has more Canadian 20th century history than HT does.

My brother in law works for Shaw so dumping it is not in the cards. I know they can order it if they get enough demand so I will rattle their cage. See if I can switch it up for FNC ;) I agree HC has gone to seed. When it 1st came on it was the Nazi channel and now it's just the Jag channel. Better programs on the womens channel for cryin out loud!

I like the Snow father/son team and I've enjoyed the shows. The best one was the Falklands War one. That was my war. The computer animations are very well done.
I'm not sure about the card-board cut-outs on generals at war but the rest of the content is quite good.

I agree with Regina, the Canadian History Channel sucks. On vistiting in-laws in Florida, the US History channel is much better, no NCIS or other non-history shite that seems to be 90% of the Canadian channel. Even on my infrequent visits to the UK, their History Channel is actually all history related. What is wrong with our channel? Surely they lose viewers with the crappy content? I barely watch it.

The Military Channel is quite good, although after 3 months you've seen everything and it gets a bit repetitive, but there are some good an unusual shows on there. My kid loves the ‘top-ten’ shows, top-ten tanks/bombers/submarines etc. Simple stuff but well presented.

EB, agreed with the Military Channel, how many times can you watch the same Sniper competition, or the top ten Submarines of all time?

The card board cut outs kinda threw me when I 1st saw it but it grew on me. I think more because I used to love doing the big hex war gaming it made the card board feel familiar. To be honest I like the father/son one but the detail in this one gets more in the heads of the generals fighting and lends to finer details then a battle overview. For instance in Stalingrad they compare boots and uniforms and the difference of waterproofing. It's minor details like that really add to the authenticity.

Yea, I like that crazy ex-Seal test weapons though!

And Scape, I do like the generals one. I wish somebody would re-run "World at War". That would be better than crappy NCIS or JAG.......

What a crock of shit

Up until two years ago HT had a message board which a bunch of us from this site posted on regularly. We actually got to have conversations with the ones that ran the place where they'd ask us our opinion on the current programming and what we'd like to see. I'd inquired about the Battlefield series but money was an issue with getting good historical shows but for the most part it was still history of some sort. Certain days were designated for a period or era. Think Thursdays was WWI & WWII day and Mondays were Roman periods etc. Then all of a sudden they slapped on JAG and the Antique Road Show and it's been down hill ever since........quite sad actually.

Does "Hormel 26 Charlie" ring a bell?
