I have no idea about VAC, but the banking system is pretty fucked if you can put money into an account that belongs to someone with a different name.
If you put money in an account # 1234567 in name of John Doe, and that works, because John Doe actually owns that account, perfect.
Now try to put money into account # 1234578 in name of John Doe, and it should bounce, because John Doe does NOT own that account, Jane Smith does.
Does NOBODY on either side ever check their shit? Can NOBODY figure out software that keeps shit like this from happening???

I don't think it is all that hard, is it???

On either side? No. The bank can't make assumptions and the onus is upon the VAC to make sure the payments are verified once a discrepancy has been reported. In this case due diligence was not followed up by VAC.

One would think. In 1998 I moved my banking from a credit union (which was awful) to Washington Mutual and only had the account a few weeks when a US$25,000 deposit showed up on it. I initially figured the bank had done a typo with one of my deposits but after a couple weeks I went to the bank to see what was up. It was a wire transfer that they could not trace but the money was there. I put it into savings and when the IRS demanded I pay taxes on it I did and then elected to use the balance to pay down the mortgage on our house.

No one ever came looking for the money.

With the US Veteran's Affairs the issue I had was dealing with my knee. They would not replace a defective artificial knee and what finally took place was my 'evil' health insurance company decided that it was medically necessary for me to get a state-of-the-art knee. After recovery I was suitable for service again.

But it took a private firm to fix up something the VA was supposed to handle.

The bank does not make assumptions. You have to ID yourself when you open an account, and when I want to put money into an account that is not mine, but the cheque is written out to me, it will NOT be put into that account. The bank has their obligation to protect their customers.

A number and a name should correspond, if not, the money should bounce. Period.

Sad and disgusting that our vets are treated this way, all he wants now it an apology and for his house to be restored, small potatoes considering he was at the point where he was trying to take his own life. The VA needs an overhaul, put some people who give a shit in palce.

We throw our boys and gals in uniform to the wolves, they spill their blood and guts, we then tell them to fuck off when they ask for help.

This is another reason why I find it very difficult to tell people like my nephew that joining the Canadian Forces is a very good experience, and a good place for a career/job.
