The Germans had a 200:1 advantage and it wasn't enough. [B-o]

Quote:
After a heavy mortar barrage on Mt. Battaglia, Italy, Staff Sgt. Manuel V. Mendoza spots 200 enemy soldiers charging up the slope towards his position. He grabs his Thompson submachine gun and empties his five magazines into the charging force. He then switches to a carbine, exhausting that weapon’s ammunition as well. He draws his pistol and shoots a soldier armed with a flame-thrower, just before the German can reach Mendoza’s position.

He then switches to a machinegun, pouring withering fire into the enemy and scattering them. When his gun jams, he switches to grenades and causes the enemy to begin fleeing. He charges after them, grabbing discarded weapons and capturing an enemy soldier. For single-handedly defeating a German counterattack, Staff Sgt. Mendoza is awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, which is upgraded to the Medal of Honor in 2014.

Hollywood gets hold of the story, sets it in Vietnam and changes the guy's name to 'John Rambo.

How the hell did he not get a Medal of Honor at the time? Was it because his heroics were so immense that they weren’t believable?

Nah, just the usual dumb ol' bigotry of the era, aimed even at those who bled out on the same battlefields as the white soldiers:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_V._Mendoza

Quote:
Nearly 70 years would pass before his heroism was properly recognized with the Medal of Honor. That belated recognition came through the Defense Authorization Act, which called for a review of Jewish American and Hispanic American veterans from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War who had been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross to see if they had been denied the Medal of Honor by prejudice.[7] Mendoza was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama in a March 18, 2014, ceremony in the White House. As Mendoza had died in 2001, his widow accepted his award.

Good chance for POSPOTUS Dennison to score a twofer though. Take the award back from a Mexican to satisfy the psycho base plus reverse something that was given out by the demon Obamunist. Par for the course considering what they've been doing lately to Latino veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, and their families too.
